Anguilla Ins. Open For Business

Dear Mr. Editor

Anguilla Inc. Open
For Business

Who would have thought that this meant that all of Anguilla (our land and our people) was for sale and in some cases not even to the highest bidder?

There were those of us who thought that the current Government saw economic development as a means to an end. A means of securing a comfortable lifestyle for Anguillians while at the same time providing the resources to address certain social concerns (education, medical, juvenile delinquency and parenting) in our community. What have we seen since we returned this Government to power? Project after project after project continues to be the focus of the day. The social agenda that occupied so much of the political campaign has been forgotten. Maybe it was always just a ploy to secure our votes. Have we again been fooled?
The new life we expected to be injected into finding solutions for our social concerns with the election of the young and ‘vibrant’ Neil Rogers has not materialized.

When will we wake up? When all the land around us no longer belongs to us? When we can no longer say to our neighbours ‘ who you for’ and make a connection? When we live as those in the USA and Europe do, and pass each other without exchanging the time of day? Will we allow ourselves and our wishes to be ignored for another five years?

We deserve better and must use every opportunity available to us to let the Ministers of Government, and those who advise them, know that we see what they are doing or, more correctly, we see what they are not doing. They are not making sure that Anguillians obtain long-term economic and social benefits from the development of Anguilla.

We Must Make Our Voices Heard.

Yours truly,
A Selfless Anguillian
