Children Surprised Dad At Age 60

Richard Hobson, Manager of A-Affordable Insurance Company in Anguilla, is still savouring some pleasant surprises sprang on him by his six children at the family’s home at Rey Hill on Saturday, August 6.

One surprise was that although some of the children are living and working abroad, they all arranged to be at home at the same time for his birthday. He was surprised when they threw the weekend sumptuous party for him in the open yard with many family members and friends present. His third surprise came when, while the party was in progress, his daughter, Rhonda, drove a brand new jeep into the drive-way with the shrill sound of the horn piercing the air.

The Hyundai Tucson V6 jeep was a special present to daddy Hobson for his 60th birthday. He in fact reached the milestone on Wednesday, August 10, the day before the visiting children left the island.

Hobson, known for his low-key manner, ready wit and humour, was overwhelmed by the love shown to him by his children supported by their mother and his wife, Mrs. Angela Hobson.

“Where was the insurance bought for this jeep?” he managed to ask, observing that no one had insured it with his company. He learned later that the vehicle was temporarily insured with another company in order to keep the surprise from him for the time being and to secure the licence. He has now got the last laugh, promptly insuring the jeep with his company. “It is the right thing to do,” he laughed.

Mr. Hobson, who is originally from Nevis, came to Anguilla in June 1968. In 1998 he became a naturalised Anguillian. He is a well-respected family man, businessman and churchman.
