Soroptimists Conclude Reading Programme

The Soroptomist Club of Anguilla has concluded its yearly reading programme. The two-and-a-half week programme has been ongoing for the last 15 years. With the volunteering of local soroptomists and friends, and the participation of the Education Department in the form of Tr. Rhonda Connor, Education Officer-Multi professional support services, the programme has again been extremely successful.

This year, 30 children participated in the programme. These children are selected by their teachers from the six public primary schools. Although children of all ages are chosen to benefit from the exercise, it is mostly aimed at children who will be going into Campus B in September, advancing them to their appropriate reading levels.
There are 12 levels in the programme, with younger children usually starting at the 2nd or 3rd level.

At the closing ceremony, Mrs. Stella Horsford said that she would like to congratulate the children for completing the programme. She said that they had shown their best behavior and worked very hard to help themselves.

Mrs. Horsford ended by saying, “I would like to wish you all the best at your new school in September and, in the meantime, I would like to encourage you all to use the Public Library to further advance your reading.”

A vote of thanks was given by Serena Rogers. She thanked the Soroptomists for their time, Tr. Rhonda for helping to organise the programme, and all others for who participating to help the children become better readers.
