A Day at the Beach

Anguilla Beach Primer or some helpful hints on what items to take for a great day at the beach. Be sure to start early...this may take awhile.

You have arrived. Anguilla and all its glorious beaches are waiting for you to explore. The plan is made, now preparations must begin. The question is…what to take to make this beach trip perfect in every way?
Everyone’s first thought is food, right? Or maybe beverages, or is that included in the food? No the most important thing is sun block but everybody knows that. So you make a list. It would be terrible to get to the beach and find you left something out and even if it’s just a short walk to retrieve the much needed item, it would be an awful waste of precious beach time. So without further ado let’s begin…

The List:

Start with the all important sun block; forget about the tanning lotion, tanning is going to happen regardless. If you run out the first day and spend several hours at the beach without block the sun’s effect will remind you for the rest of your stay, painfully. We have seen people that look like giant walking cherries.
Drinks are essential. Even if it’s just water, actually water is best because the sun and the sand and the wind and water will dry you out in no time and give you a nasty headache.
So take some kind of beverage and naturally that means you will need a cooler, as hot drinks are not appealing.
Next, you are sure to get hungry if you are going to stay for more than an hour. You have lots of room in the cooler so why not pack some sandwiches. And an apple. And maybe some peanuts, swimming and sunning takes a lot of energy.
You will need an umbrella. The bigger the better. Even with sun block you can’t stay in the sun for hours on end.
Chairs…so you can sit up and gaze endlessly at the calming blue waters and cloud dotted sky… how romantic.

And a book, for after you have seen enough sky and don’t feel like commenting on the beautiful tranquil blue water anymore.
Of course you will need towels. Several to be sure.
How about taking a snorkel? There are plenty of great spots with friendly reef fish waiting right off shore. You will need a mask, fins and a snorkel. They all come in a net bag for easy carrying and cleaning.

Did I forget to mention sun glasses? No need right? Read more about why. But maybe you should bring a hat too, you might want to take a walk, and also include one of those little plastic floating wallets on a string to hold your keys and money. It would not be prudent to leave valuables at your beach camp while you are off getting a Pina Colada.
Beach balls, water floats, small surf boards, tubes or flotation devices for the kiddies.
Bring a tee shirt or two. Try to find one with Anguilla written on it somewhere. They are great for snorkeling, no sunburned back.
Flip Flops. The sand gets very hot close to noon.
Well that’s about it. Assemble all and pack into your rental car or on your back and head out. Pick a spot near the water and arrange.
Ohh…and make sure you leave enough room for yourself.
