Preparing For Track And Field Championships


The 2005 Leeward Islands Youth Track & Field Championships will be held in Anguilla from Saturday, April 30 to Sunday, May 1.

The matches, which will commence at 10 a.m. each day, will take place at the James Ronald Webster Park.

Participating teams will represent Antigua, British Virgin Islands, St. Kitts, Nevis, St. Maarten, the US Virgin Islands and the host island, Anguilla.

Two workshops, (for officials of the championship games), aimed at ensuring the smooth and successful running of the events, were held in Anguilla over the past weekend.

The first was conducted at Campus B of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School by James Kelly, a Certified International Amateur Athletic Federation Area Technical Official, from St. Kitts.

The second workshop for photo finish officials was conducted by Griffin Webster and Tim Webster of Weblinks. Their work will help to determine the exact winning positions of the athletics at the finishing points of the events.

Local arrangements for the sports meet are being made by the Anguilla Amateur Athletic Association, whose President is Kenn Banks.
