Ministers, family and friends at Birthday celebration
|
Two of them, who just made 94 a few days apart, are Olympia Gumbs of Rey Hill who celebrated hers on March 4 and Evelyn Hodge of Long Bay who observed hers on February 28. Mrs. Hodge, who is known to visit other elderly persons, was among family, friends and others at a Service of Thanksgiving commemorating Mrs. Gumbs’ birthday.
The service, held at Mrs. Gumbs’ bedside, was opened by Brenda Hodge, her caretaker. Officiating members of the clergy were Pastor Cecil Richardson of the Central Baptist Church at Rey Hill; Superintendent Minister of the Methodist Circuit in Anguilla and his colleague, Reverend Joseph Lloyd.

Mrs. Gumbs, who is originally from North Hill, began living at TLC Home Facility at Rey Hill till October last year. She has two children – Roy who resides in St. Croix and Anna who lives in Staten Island, New York. Other relatives include Rose Proctor, (her sister-in-law) and Janice Carty, a step daughter.

Mrs. Hodge, the other person who celebrated her 94th birthday in her village, is a well known figure and matriarch at Long Bay where she is surrounded by many family members and friends.
