14 Year Old Speaks Out |
The Editor
The Anguillan Newspaper.
Dear Editor,
14-year-old speaks out
Please allow me a space in your newspaper to make public this letter. I took upon myself to write this letter to draw to the attention of those concerned the poor condition of the East End public roads. As a member of the East End community it is very disturbing to see the state of our roads.
As we all know the other roads throughout the island are being upgraded and resurfaced but no one seems to remember the East End community. I am not pointing any fingers at anyone, but it is quite alarming to me. The roads between the Long Road and the East End School have not yet been touched but the roads of the western part of the island are all done or in the process of being completed. I think that this is downright outrageous and unfair to the East End population.
The sides of the roads have been dug up for the laying of water pipes and parts of the trenches have been closed up and some to this day have not been done and so there are loads of dirt and open holes left to be completed. I would like to know how long they intend to leave them like that? Just the other day they were gigantic potholes and piles and piles of dirt on the side of the roads and some have been worked on but others have been left to be continued. Traffic cannot flow properly and this situation can cause accidents. We say Anguilla is a tourist destination. Is this what we want our tourists to experience? During the month of January at least one accident occurred because of these piles of dirt. Why should this happen? I ask. There is not one reason.
As the roads keep getting worse and worse day after day, no one knows what will happen next. To see this happening, and can’t do anything about it, just makes me absolutely furious.
I hope that you the people of Anguilla and especially the members of the East End community agree with me that something needs to be done to ensure that our safety is not in jeopardy. I hope that those in charge will not pay a blind eye to this situation and that something will be done as soon as possible.
IT JUST TAKES ONE VOICE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
