The presentation was made by Mr. Fleming last month when he attended the Overseas Territories Conference in London and then travelled to Slough to meet with the Anguilla Improvement Association there.

The plaque expressed appreciation for the outstanding contribution by Mrs. Gumbs-Richardson to the social development of Anguilla and the advancement of mankind. She is an active member of the Anguilla Improvement Association. Throughout the years she worked ardently to establish a working partnership with fellow Anguillians and affiliated with other members of the Slough community to raise much-needed funds for any cause. She is on a sitting committee for the Chalvey Forum, Chalvey Carnival Committee and the Slough Afro-Caribbean 40-plus.

Anita left Anguilla in 1962 for England where she has been residing ever since. She and her husband, Urban, have two children – Amanda who lives in Anguilla and Tyrone.

She worked for a short period at Chix Confectionery and P.B. Cow Plastic and later at Satchwell Controls for seven years. She then worked as an auxillary nurse at Upton Hospital and at the Canadian Red Cross Hospital. She later moved to Wexham Park Hospital, her present place of employment, where she excels as a support worker in the maternity unit.

Anita served as a warden on the district church council for many years and is known for her professional counselling skills. At last month’s presentation ceremony, in Slough, she was described as a deserving person for the award from the Chief Minister of Anguilla.
