Hazel Gumbs Excels At Howard


Miss Hazel Shermel Gumbs, an outstanding young Anguillian scholar, graduated Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, with two degrees: Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, from Howard University in Washington DC on 8th May 2004.

The daughter of Ensor and Meridith Gumbs of Lower South Hill, Anguilla, Hazel began her tertiary education at Howard in August 2000. During her four years of study she received several awards for “outstanding scholastic achievement and excellence” as follows:

2001 - 2004: Vice President of Omicron Delta Epsilon Honor Society in
Economics
2000 - 2004: Deans Honour Roll
2000 - 2004: Arts and Science Honours Programme
2000 - 2001: Reginald F Lewis Scholarship
2004: Golden Key International Honour Society
2004: National Deans List
2004: Phi Beta Kappa
Hazel has been accepted by the George Washington University, in Washington DC, to read for her Masters degree in Public Policy and will commence her studies in the fall of this year.

She expresses sincere thanks to her family and friends, who supported her in various ways, and to the Government of Anguilla for its assistance.
