Exciting Jazz At Frangipani

“I am very excited about it and jazz is growing tremendously in Anguilla because of other promoters being involved,” said Valentin Davis. He was commenting on the upcoming Anguilla Jazz Festival which he will be presenting along with his friend and world top-rated steel pan player, Neville York.

The festival, featuring some of the best international and local recording jazz players and vocalists, will open at Frangipani Restaurant on Friday March 19 at 6.30. The main stage will come to full life on the spectacular pool terrace at Frangipani Beach Club at 8.00 o’clock the following night, Saturday, March 20.
“We have an exciting show planned on that night which will display an excellent variety of performances. Our main show-stopper will be Sherry Butler,” Davis stated. “It is going to be quite a compact show lasting for about three and a half hours of continuous music and performances by various artistes. The entrance fee is US $40.00 and it includes a beverage at our bar. It is a sitting performance with our guests around the tables.
“On Sunday, March 21, we will be having a jazz jam session which will be held at Johnnos at Road Bay, starting at noon. We are inviting everybody to come to that and our guests can have lunch, a beverage at the bar and enjoy themselves.”
The list of visiting artistes from the United States comprises Vocalists Sherry Butler, Jeannie Brooks, Patti Wicks, Tim Eyerman (on the saxophone, flute and clarinet) and Jimmy “Doc” Regan, jazz quartet.
It will be the Fourth Annual Anguilla Jazz Festival at Frangipani. The festival had its early beginnings in May 1999 when Anastacia Larmonie “St.Maarten’s Ambassador of Music”, and her ensemble and quartet, performed at the Meads Bay Resort. This welcome entertainment eventually led to the formal introduction of the Anguilla Jazz Festival.
