AT & T Wireless Announces Its Intent To Participate In Anguilla's Liberalisation Process

Mr. Jordan Roderick, President AT&T Wireless International, met with Chief Minister Osbourne Fleming and Mr. Preston Bryan, Managing Director of the Caribbean Commercial Bank, to discuss AT&T Wireless’ commitment to developing a state of the art GSM network in Anguilla and its strategy to partner with local investors. “The development of a competitive mobile phone industry represents a major opportunity for economic growth in Anguilla, and AT&T Wireless would be honored to collaborate with your government to bring the benefits of our advanced services and pricing to the Anguilla marketplace,” said Mr. Roderick.

Benefits for the Caribbean
Across the Caribbean and Bermuda, AT&T Wireless is expanding its networks by leveraging its well-established businesses in the U.S. and Canada. By combining operational and network synergies with these businesses, the company is ready and able to provide state of the art telecommunications for the Caribbean at competitive prices.

“The development of the Anguillian market is part of AT&T Wireless’ long term, pan-Caribbean strategy to extend our North American footprint into key markets where its customers work, live, travel and play. In addition to its existing operations in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, the company has started operations in Bermuda, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines. We have networks underway to launch in early 2004 in Barbados, Curacao, Dominica, Grenada and Cayman. In the near term, AT&T Wireless is looking to extend its Caribbean presence through public license tenders and possible acquisitions,” said Eric Spackey, AT&T Wireless Director of Business Development for the Caribbean. “Although we did not submit an application during the first round of the tender process to show our support for the participation of local entrepreneurs to receive a license, we are excited and fully committed to participating in the next round scheduled for early January.”

Today excellent communications are the vital tool needed for growth. Nowhere is that more vital than in the growing island markets of the Caribbean. AT&T Wireless’ building of a powerful wireless infrastructure will help position the region as a technology center, providing a host of new business opportunities that come with a reliable, flexible and low cost wireless communications network.
