Tranquility Book Launched |
A tourism promotion hard cover book entitled: Anguilla: Tranquility Wrapped in Blue has been launched in Anguilla and at World Travel Market in London. The 160-page beautiful and informative book was published by Hansib Publications and edited by Arif Ali, a noted Gyanese publisher in the United Kingdom, who has produced a dozen similar books for regional and international countries.
Mr. Ali was contracted by the Anguilla Government to produce the book which is expected to be a long-term selling tool for the island in the tourism market. Ten thousand copies have been printed. Of that number 6,000 copies were paid for in advance of publishing by some 100 buyers on the island including hotels, banks and other business places.
The various articles in the book and the colourful photography were done by a cadre of persons in Anguilla knowledgeable about the island and well able to capture its spirit, particular features and tourist attractions. It is a tremendous addition to the written works on the island and is expected to be a long-sought-after book.
Commenting on the book, Mr. Ali said: “It was and is a good experience to have worked in Anguilla where the name of the book reflects the nation. I had to try to get in this book a subliminal presence of a nation so that without realising it, I hope that my team and I have given you a book that reflects your nation. I have diversified a little bit from the tourism request because I felt what a lovely opportunity to promote 12,000 people in a small country.”
The book was first launched in Anguilla on Monday, November 3, at the official opening of Tourism Week 2003 where it was well accepted by Government, tourism officials and other persons. Its launching at World Travel Market, one of the biggest international tourism trade fairs, is expected to have some good promotional results for the island.
Mr. Ali brought a limited number of copies of the book with him essentially for complimentary distribution. He has advised all businesses on the island, which have purchased advanced copies, that their shipment of books will be arriving in Anguilla later.
Apart from these books, a number of copies will be available on the island and will be distributed through the office of The Anguillian newspaper.
