Threae Notable “Firsts” For Anguilla

Dear Sir,

I feel privileged to have been residing in Anguilla during the last two years during which time Anguilla has notched up three notable and historic ‘Firsts’.

I refer to Omari Bank’s selection for the West Indies cricket squad; Anguilla’s first participation in the Commonwealth Games last year and now we have the 2003 Yacht Regatta.
For the last two events there has been a common denominator and driving force behind these achievements in the person of Richard West of Sandy Ground. His sole and commendable objective has been to put Anguilla on the map. This he has truly done and I congratulate him. As with all his many local community efforts he has, to coin a phrase, done us proud.
On reflection, I find it very difficult to understand the reluctance of the Government to give honour where honour is due by granting him ‘belongership’ which I consider he richly deserves.

Yours sincerely
Eric Martineau
