ANGUILLA VIGILANT ON SARS

The outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in South East Asia and now affecting Canada and the United States, is being carefully monitored in Anguilla.
The Ministry of Health says that of interest now is the inclusion of Toronto, Canada on the list of countries where postponement of non-essential travel is being recommended. The other countries on the list are China and HongKong.
Foster Rogers, Permanent Secretary for Health and Social Development has issued a statement which in a update on the SARS epidemic. The release states in part:
“The Government of Anguilla realises the close ties that our population has with Canada, as a large number of Anguillians reside there, and wishes to reassert the recommendation of the World Health Organisation. We also recommend that all non-essential travel to Toronto, Canada be postponed at this time, in addition to China and Hong Kong.
“The SARS Committee, as established by the Ministry of Health, will endeavour to keep a close watch on the international spread of this disease, and implement appropriate measures to conduct surveillance and treatment activities on Anguilla.
