Paul Plank, who was among those in attendance from Anguilla, reported that the musical experience climaxed in a grand concert of praise and worship rendered by a 175-voice choir at the Sherbourne Conference Centre in Bridgetown on April 20.
Anguilla was represented by 27 members including 23 singers from the Seventh-day Churches under the able leadership of Pastor Oville Fleming (noted bass singer).
In addition to stiff rehearsals, the Musical Experience included workshops on worship, choral conducting and a comprehensive study of hymns. The selections at the concert were drawn from well known Classicals, Spirituals, Hymns, Caribbean Choral Classics as well as Contemporary and Traditional Gospel.
The composers ranged from Mozart to Richard Smallwood. The directors were Dr. Vernon Andrews of Caribbean Union Conference, Pastor Cryston Josiah of Kansas City, Missouri and Swehla Hunt of Omaha, USA.
The programme was under the leadership of Pastor Joseph Aaron, Youth Director of the North Caribbean Conference.
Musical Experience is a programme held every three years by the SDA Church aimed at developing music among its members.
“The participants had an enjoyable time meeting new people, learning new things and praising Jehovah God,” commented Jason Webster, one of the Youth Leaders from Anguilla at Musical Experience 8.
