Foster Parents Honoured

Another chapter in the history of the Department of Social Development was written on Tuesday 15th May 2007. Before a small but appreciative gathering, on the grounds of the residence of the Chief Minister and Mrs. Fleming, over 40 persons were honoured for providing Foster Care Services to children on the island. The recipients were placed in four categories depending on the length of time the service was rendered:
Less than one year
1 to less than 5 years
5 to less than 10 years
10 years or more

Sea Turtle Nesting At Captain's Bay

To the amazement and enjoyment of a few fortunate sun bathers, a huge leatherback turtle appeared at Captain’s Bay beach last week. To most of the visitors on the beach, this was the first time that they had ever seen this magnificent prehistoric animal. But for a lucky few, this was actually the second time in a week that they had seen a leatherback turtle nest on Captain’s Bay.

In their Wednesday press briefing, the Police further reported on a raid carried out in the bush area at Welches at lunchtime on Sunday, May 6. In that raid, involving twenty police officers, 54 persons said to have been at an illegal cock fight, were detained by the police.
