The eleven-member strong Anguilla National Culinary Team returned home on Tuesday afternoon, jubilant over their success at the Taste of the Caribbean Competition held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Miami, Florida, June 22-26.

Twenty-four Sixth Form Students, at the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School, graduated on Wednesday, June 29. It was the school’s 13th graduation ceremony which was held at the Teachers’ Resource Centre, under the theme Leaving Empowered, Equipped for the Future.

There were sixteen serious crimes committed in Anguilla during the period June 22-29, according to Inspector Emris Rogers of the Royal Anguilla Police Force.

Former Parliamentarian Alberto Hughes of West End was one of the persons recently honoured by the Life Impact Centre Church for his contribution to the community.

Her application was made in the High Court on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 by Caribbean Juris Chambers, where she was a pupil. Ms. Richardson was admitted to the Bar by Madam Justice Louise E. Blenman.

A British ship, RFA Wave Ruler, has embarked on a regional Engagement Visit to Anguilla from June 30 to July 4, the third time the ship visited the island, the first being in 2007.

A four-day workshop on Customer Service Excellence for some 80 Public Officers in Anguilla, drawn from all ministries and departments, was held this week. In addition, ten Senior Officers attended a separate training sessionto serve later on as certified customer service trainers.
The June 27-30 workshop, at Masara Resort, Katouche, was a collaborative initiative by the Department of Public Administration in Anguilla, the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Cooperation & Governance and the Institutional Development Division.

Viceroy Anguilla (VA) has launched its 2011 Cross Exposure Training Program. The program is designed to provide colleagues with an opportunity to train and work within their specific department at other Viceroy properties. The objective of the training is to give colleagues exposure to more established operations in order for them to benchmark and identify best practices that they can institute within their local departments to drive greater effectiveness and efficiency.

The early morning light – the day’s first rays of sun – hits the white sand causing it to glisten almost as brilliantly as the turquoise waters that lap the shore. A pelican glides by perhaps looking for breakfast – or a comfortable tree so it can watch the unusual bustle of activities.

It was a very sweet way to kick off our participation at the Taste of the Caribbean Competition in Miami yesterday, when it was announced that Mr. Glendon Carty, Caribbean Chef of the Year 2009, and Executive Chef at Ripples Restaurant and Chef at CapJuluca, was inducted into the Caribbean Chef of The Year Hall of Fame.

Executive members of the Anguilla Civil Service Association-ACSA met for two days to take an in-depth look at a number of issues affecting and impacting Public Servants on the island.

Fitness Instructor/Motivational speaker Louis Price, this month teamed up with the Cap Juluca Health and Wellness Committee to present a special session on “Healthy Lifestyles” for the Resort’s staff. The session was part of the Juluca Health and Wellness “Stay Healthy, Keep Fit” Programme, which is aimed at assisting employees in improving their overall health and fitness.

Nurses at the various health establishments in Anguilla have completed a two-day workshop on chronic diseases, held at the Community College. It was part of an ongoing programme in the Eastern Caribbean sponsored by the Pan American Health Organisation, especially relating to the prevention and control of diabetes.

It pays to take time off for some backyard gardening as Carl & Wanda Bouffonge, a couple residing at South Hill, know too well. They have just harvested a 66-pound pumpkin, one of the largest grown in Anguilla recently.

The Anguilla Teachers’ Union, which comprises some 250 members, with Emma Ferguson as President, has laid out to Government its various concerns about taxation, cuts in salaries and the high cost of living. In the words of ATU member, Michelle Queeley, those were issues which “plague our nation’s most noble body of educators.”

Two fifth form students at the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School, Chelsey Hughes and Senegal Carty, are now in Wisonsin attending the World Affairs Seminar from June 18-24 at Carroll University. Their attendance was arranged through the Rotary Club of Anguilla with the assistance of a number of sponsors in Anguilla and in the United States.

Anguilla’s National Culinary Team left the island on Tuesday this week, to participate in the Taste of the Caribbean Competition at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Miami, Florida, from Wednesday to Sunday (June 22-26).
