Participants of the Duke of Edinburgh International Award for Young People now known as Anguilla Explorers’ Award visited St Martin for their first off-Island adventurous journey. The group of twenty one (21) participants and leaders, left the shores of Anguilla on Friday July 8th and camped at the accommodation generously provided by Jean-Claude Constanzo of JMC Marina and Boatyard.

Preparations are currently being finalized for the hosting of the 12th edition of the John T. Memorial Cycling Race from July 16-17, 2011. Widely regarded as one of the premiere cycling competitions in the region, the event attracts competitors from neighboring islands including St. Vincent, Antigua, Nevis, St. Kitts, Guyana, St. Martin/St. St. Maarten and Guadeloupe and host country, Anguilla. Newcomers for 2011 include Surinam, Santo Domingo and Aruba.

The Optimist Club of Anguilla created history, when, on Thursday 7th July 2011, one of its junior members was elected to serve on the Optimist International Junior Optimist Octagon International (JOOI) Board of Directors. Mr. Cordane Richardson, son of Corvette Richardson and Daphne Jacobs-Richardson of South Hill, was elected to serve as one of four directors on the aforementioned board at the 19th annual JOOI convention which was held in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, from July 5th – 7th, 2011. |

Society of St Vincent de Paul meets in Anguilla

Last weekend members of the Society of St Vincent de Paul from the region held a Diocesan Assembly in Anguilla with two days of conference under the theme “Rethinking our Mission to meet the Challenges of Today.” It was held at La Vue, where the visiting participants stayed, and used the newly opened conference room. Members of the Society from Montserrat, British Virgin Islands and Antigua were in attendance.
