POLICE REPORT SHOOTING INCIDENTS UNDER INVESTIGATION

Police in Anguilla are investigating shooting incidents in different locations on the island. The first was reported to have occurred at North Side, on Saturday, August 6. Several gunshots were fired in that area, but do damages or injuries were reported.

GOVERNOR FULLY BACKS TRANSFER OF PERMANENT SECRETARIES

While speaking at the press conference called by the Anguilla Government and the IMF team on July 30, Chief Minister and Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Hubert Hughes, expressed disagreement with the planned transfer of Permanent Secretaries in January 2012. He was particularly concerned about the transferring of Dr. Aidan Harrigan and Kathleen Rogers from his ministry in view of their important work in economic development and finance respectively.

Tourism Scholarships Awarded To Seven Anguillians

The Caribbean Hotel Association Education Foundation (CHTAEF) last week awarded scholarships to seven persons in the tourism industry. They received the awards at a ceremony held at Paradise Cove Resort. The CHTAEF received some one hundred applications in March this year from eighteen countries in the Caribbean. Forty four scholarships were awarded to fourteen destinations at a total cost of US$193,400.00. |

Anguilla’s celebrated and eminent jurist, Dame Dr. Bernice Lake, QC has formally gone into retirement with a big send off and thank you from the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, the Anguilla and OECS Bar Associations and other members of the legal fraternity and family and friends in the region and the island. The extraordinary assertive, adversarial and legal giant, who earned the respectand admiration of her colleagues everywhere, was the recipient ofa full measure of tributes at a special sitting of the Court on Friday, July 22.
