CARTY ASSUMES EAGLE POST IN NEVIS

Rudolph Carty, a longstanding senior employee of American Eagle in Anguilla, has been given a new job in Nevis. His transfer comes as the airline prepares to commence a scheduled service at the recently-improved Newcastle Airport on May 15. He will be serving as the Operations Supervisor at the Eagle’s station.

CASAP WEEK BEGINS APRIL 20 2003

The Anguilla Association of Office Professionals will be celebrating Administrative Professionals Week, along with its regional and international counterparts, from Sunday April 20 to Saturday April 26, 2003. This year the Caribbean Association of Secretaries and Administrative Professionals (CASAP) has chosen ‘Networking to Embrace the Region’ as itstheme for the week.
Administrative Professionals Day will be celebrated on Wednesday April 23.

BOOK ON REPTILES, AND AMPHIBIANS

The Anguilla National Trust has again broken ground with a first publication on The Reptiles and Amphibians of Anguilla, British West Indies. The book is the product of a collaborative effort by its authors, Karim Hodge, former Associated Director of the Trust who is now the Environmental Officer in the Physical Planning Department; Ellen J. Censky of the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History and Robert Powell of the Avila University Department of Biology.

BOYS BRIGADE CLEAN COVE BAY

Some thirty (30) members of the First and Second Anguilla Boys Brigade Companies participated in the clean-up of Cove Bay this past weekend. The beach clean-up was part of their community service programme. Cap Juluca assisted the efforts of the Brigaders by providing the bags, rakes and gloves and the removal of the debris. The five-star Resort also donated US$1,000.00 to the youth organisation and treated them to lunch after the clean-up.

JAMIDA WEBSTER LAID TO REST Pastor: "We Are Sad And Angry"

A plaque presented by the Principal of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School, Darwin Hazell, to Kent Webster and Iris Hughes of Island Harbour in honour of their daughter, Jamida Webster, has added to the precious mementos of her which they are now cherishing. Mr. Hazell described Jamida as “a fine example of a model student.” The plaque was presented to her parents at the funeral on March 28 at the Mount Fortune Seventh-day Adventist Church in recognition of her “exemplary dedication and active participation” in the life of the school during the years 1999-2003.

70TH ANNIVERSARY OF GIRLGUIDING TO BE CELEBRATED IN ANGUILLA

The 70th Anniversary of Girlguiding in Anguilla will be celebrated with a week of activities from April 9-13. The occasion was to have been observed last year which in fact was the anniversary date, but this was not possible as the present Commissioner Dr O. M. Linda Banks only took up her appointment in April that year.

Officials of the British and Anguilla Governments met for talks on March 25 and 26 at Paradise Cove for the annual review of the Strategic Country Programme extending from 2000/01 to 2004/05. The financial arrangement is the outcome of discussions aimed at establishing a mutually-agreed medium term action plan to guide achievement of the Government’s objectives for economic and social development and for democratic and accountable administration.

Several hundred school children in Anguilla, joined by teachers, representatives of various community groups and churches, staged a protest street march from outside the National Trust Building around the Caribbean Commercial Bank and Mahogany Tree Road area and back, on Tuesday afternoon, against recent acts of violence on the island.

BANKS, BENJAMIN FOR MONTE CARLO

A two-man delegation from Anguilla will be spending several days in Monte Carlo at the invitation of officials there. They are Minister of Finance Victor Banks who will be representing Chief Minister Osbourne Fleming and Chairman of the Tourist Board, John Benjamin. Their travel to Europe was arranged from Friday March 28 to Tuesday of next week when they are expected to return to Anguilla.
