Both the nations of Antigua and Anguilla endeavoured to honour and remember Dame Bernice at her official funeral in Antigua on Friday, September 16, 2011. As the proceedings were broadcast live via television in some islands, and radio in Anguilla, this is likewise a humble summary highlighting the proceedings for those who may have missed them at the time. The Two State Solution describes, of course, the additional local Memorial Service held here in Anguilla, on Monday, at Saint Mary’s Church in The Valley, as reported elsewhere in this edition of The Anguillian.

As a young student, listening in rapt wonder to a visiting storyteller, Cassilda Thomas was hooked on the spoken word. On leaving school her job as a library assistant offered opportunites for sharing stories with children, sometimes on Saturdays, during summer programmes and visits to pre-schools. As a result of networking between the Anguilla Library Service and the Philipsburg Jubilee Library another window of opportunity opened for Cassilda.

ANGUILLA HAS LOST A LEGAL LUMINARY AND STALWART

This Friday, September 16, 2011, the late prominent Anguillian Lawyer, and distinguished Caribbean legal scholar, Dame Dr. Bernice Lake, DGCN, Q.C., B.A. Hons., LLB (Lond.) Hon. LLD (UWI), will be laid to rest in Antigua. The official funeral service, in which the Government of Antigua and Barbuda will be involved, will be held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church at Parham, beginning at 1.30 p.m. The Rt. Rev. Errol Brooks, Bishop of the Diocese of the Northeastern Caribbean and Aruba, will officiate at the funeral.

The National Security Council (NSC) agreed the main principles of a new strategy in July.

Gwendolyn and Alma spent two weeks observing Curtain Bluff’s Housekeeping Operations and sharing Cap Juluca’s operating procedures.
