Illegal drugs, with an estimated street value of some three million Eastern Caribbean dollars, have been destroyed by police in Anguilla. Personnel from the Drugs and Firearms Task Force and the Criminal Investigation Department set the contraband afire on the compound of Police Headquarters in The Valley on Tuesday afternoon, July 4.

Cannabis A Growing Headache
|

The cultivation of illegal cannabis in Anguilla appears to be a growing headache for local law enforcement authorities. Early last week, police seized over 100 matured plants growing in pots from a bush area in South Hill. By Friday of that week June 23rd, the Drugs & Firearms Task Force of The Royal Anguilla Police Force found larger quantities of the drug when it carried out a joint operation with CID and The Dutch St. Maarten Police Helicopter and Crew in an island wide search.

Government Set To Remove Derelict Vehicles In An Island-wide Cleanup Campaign

Chief Minister, the Honourable Osbourne B. Fleming, wishes to remind the general public that in keeping with the spirit of Disaster Preparedness for the 2006 Hurricane Season, and more so the need for sound Environmental Management as well as maintaining healthy productive ecosystems, that the Government of Anguilla will further its programme of mitigation against injury and property loss by removing all derelict vehicles in an island wide campaign. This initiative is also in keeping with the mandate and existing programmes of the Department of Environment and the Environmental Health Unit.
