Under that programme, guitars have been secured for a number of youngsters who will be taught to play the string music as a means of occupying their time and developing their musical ability.

NEW CXC EXAM NEXT YEAR Students To Get National Certificates

A new Secondary Level Programme, created by the Caribbean Examinations Council, will give Anguillian students and others in the region an opportunity to obtain a National Certificate rather than leaving school with nothing in their hands after some five years of secondary education. It means that many of them will have a document of their schooling and ability to present in the job market if they have not gone on to earn the formal CXC Certificate, which is now being offered.

Cable and Wireless, which has undertaken to donate US$100,000 to the Anguilla Tennis Academy over a five-year period, has carried its generosity a step further. On Tuesday, May 16, the telecommunications company launched its 2006-2007 bulky Services Directory featuring on the cover a panoramic scene of the academy’s planned Grand Slam Stadium which the company is financing. The publication also carries a lead article entitled “The Power of A Dream” telling about the conception and benefits of the project.

The National Bank of Anguilla and the Caribbean Commercial Bank which donated US$75,000 and US$85,000 to the Anguilla Tennis Academy to construct two courts last year, have gone a big step further. They have now agreed to provide a loan of US$1,000,000 each to the academy to help complete the project.
