As a former civil servant and unionist for thirty-six years, two months and twenty seven days, and having had experience in salary revisions formerly and Salary Increases during the latter part of my active service in the Anguilla Civil Service, I wish to educate (if you wish) on the differences and inadequacies of the one to the other.

President of Caribbean Juris Chambers, Chairman of the Anguilla Tourist Board and Chairman of the Anguilla Carnival Committee, John Benjamin, was honoured by the Anguilla Progressive Association of New York (APANY).

Anguillian Chantal Lewis-Brooks graduated from Howard University College of Medicine during the graduation ceremonies held at the Washington DC Campus on May 12 and 13.

The Queen’s Commission of Deputy Governor of Anguilla was presented to Stanley Everton Reid by Governor Alan Huckle on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen on Thursday, June 1.

Sirens on the vehicles of the Anguilla Police Force and Fire Services screamed a final salute to Governor Alan Huckle on Friday, June 2. He was at the time inside the small Trans Anguilla aircraft as it taxied down the runway for his flight to St. Maarten en-route to Miami.

Anguilla now has its own Deputy Governor in the person of Stanley Everton Reid, 37, son of former Minister of Social Services and now Senior Adviser in the Chief Minister’s Office, Eric Reid, and Mrs Reid of North Side.

The Royal Anguilla Police Force now has a state-of the-art vehicle to be used at crime scenes on the island. It was presented on Wednesday, May 31 by Governor Alan Huckle, in the run-up to his departure from the island.

Chief Minister, Osbourne Fleming, says there were many achievements in Anguilla over the past 39 years following its 1967 Revolution. Speaking during the Anguilla Day Official Parade at the Ronald Webster Park on May 30, Mr. Fleming made mention of the island’s numerous economic successes, political stability, freedom and fair elections, improvement of human resources and the massive infrastructural development the Government has implemented.

Outgoing Governor of Anguilla, Alan Huckle, has cautioned the Government and people of the island against various factors which could negatively impact the society if care is not taken to avoid them. He was at the time delivering a farewell address on Anguilla Day , May 30, at the Official Parade at the Ronald Webster Park, marking the 39th Anniversary of the Anguilla 1967 Revolution.

British Member of Parliament, Anthony Baldry, who is holidaying on the island, was among the gathering at the Official Parade at the Webster Park on Anguilla Day, May 30. He also attended the special luncheon at Rumza, held mainly for the senior citizens.

Bethel Methodist Church at South Hill was the venue for the Ecumenical Service of Thanksgiving held by the Christian Council as part of the activities marketing the 39th Anniversary of the Anguilla Revolution.

On Friday, May 28, 2006, His Excellency Governor Alan Huckle, his wife Helen and son, Adam, embarked on perhaps his last opportunity to enjoy Anguilla from the water before leaving for his new assignment in the Falklands at the end of this week.

A lone fisherman from West End, Anguilla, unable to haul in a 200-pound shark into his open boat, fell on a plan which worked very well.

In Anguilla is Jim Wetterer, a Professor at Atlantic University, who has been studying ants around the world in most of the Pacific and Atlantic islands and for the next couple of years he will be studying the creatures in the Caribbean area.

Anguilla’s reggae singer and musician, Bankie Banx, has fulfilled a dream which he conceived in partnership with Ijahnya Christian, relating to a positive youth development programme called the Anguilla Stingray Project. Under that programme, guitars have been secured for a number of youngsters who will be taught to play the string music as a means of occupying their time and developing their musical ability.

McLean Webster of Island Pub Grocery in Anguilla, in cooperation with Leeward Islands Helicopter Service based in St. Marrten, arranged a farewell flight tour of the island for Governor Alan Huckle on Anguilla Day.

Some 35 contractors and construction workers in Anguilla were awarded Certificates of Achievement after completing a one-week workshop in Management Techniques.

Governor Alan Huckle was presented with two gifts on Wednesday, May 31, two days before his departure from Anguilla.
