Anguillian resident and member of Sunshine Theatre Productions, Ginette Benjamin has recently completed a four week-course at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art Summer School in London. Disciplines covered in the course included Voice, Speech, Action, Movement, Stage and unarmed combat, Sonnets, Period dance, Rehearsal and Alexander – a technique that employs posture and breathing to command greater voice control.

Five young and dynamic young persons recently returned from the Commonwealth Youth Exchange held in Tortola, British Virgin Islands. They were Kerith Kentish (Delegation Head) Leah Hughes (Assistant Head of Delegation), Josef Hughes-Caines, Eduardo Samuels and Dennica Lake. The exchange which was held from August 10 -21 was from all indications, an enjoyable and learning experience.

The Digicel Rising Stars programme is a great opportunity for all singers in Anguilla to become known throughout the Caribbean. This is the first time that the programme has been brought to Anguilla and all singers are invited to the Teachers’ Resource Centre on Sunday September 3 at 9.00 a.m. to compete in the first round. Soloists or singing groups up to five in number are being encouraged to come and sing without any back up music except what they provide themselves. All types of music are being encouraged, including reggae, hip hop, calypso, country and western, blues, gospel and more.

A more organised and official role has been determined for media houses in Anguilla in the delivery of the island’s disaster management activities. The plans also take into account the interest of the international press in any given emergency situation which may occur and how the dissemination of information can be carried out in a coordinated and general manner in both cases. The aim is to have the media as key partners in a controlled communication system to ensure that the correct information gets out.

Police in Anguilla chased a 47-year-old man (ES) of Rey Hill, on Tuesday evening, August 22, in the area of Wallblake Road and Rey Hill, when he drove off at high speed. The lawmen, from the Drugs & Firearms Task Force, were on patrol when their attention was drawn to the vehicle as it sped off.

2006 ATA Summer Camp Ends With A Visit From The Governor

The 2006 Anguilla Tennis Academy Summer Tennis Camp ended on July 28 with a total of 140 participants with 14 national and international coaches. The final week of the camp was held at the tennis courts at Malliouhana Hotel, Temenos Villas, and Carimar Beach Club.
