Human Rights Day is celebrated annually across the world on 10th December.

The date was chosen to honour the United Nations General Assembly's adoption and proclamation, on 10 December 1948, of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the first global enunciation of human rights. The formal establishment of Human Rights Day occurred at the 317th Plenary Meeting of the General Assembly on 4 December 1950, when the General Assembly declared resolution 423(V), inviting all member states and any other interested organizations to celebrate the day as they saw fit.

CYCLE RIDERS IN ANGUILLA RALLY AGAINST VIOLENCE

Anguilla Tennis Academy After School Programme benefits from Governor’s donation

The successful After School Programme of the Anguilla Tennis Academy (ATA) has benefitted from a donation of US$5,600 by Governor Alistair Harrison through the Governor’s Fund. This will enable seven students to attend the After School Programme for the next year. President of the ATA, Mitchelle Lake, expressed his sincere thanks for the donation saying that in these difficult economic times it is great that persons are donating so that children can benefit from the programme. One student from each of the six primary schools, and one from Campus B of the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School, has been chosen to benefit from the scholarships.

The high level of crime among black youth had its origins in the inner cities where racism, lack of opportunity and lack of education created a desperate underclass without hope and destine to a life of poverty. But the last time I checked there are no inner cities in Anguilla - there is no lack of opportunity. Education up to high school is free and the government spends upwards of $10,000,000.00 a year on higher education.
