As part of a wider program of community service and charitable work, Kamique Properties (Anguilla) Ltd. has donated a Computer Laboratory to the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School.

A former pupil at the Morris Vanterpool Primary School, now a student at Campus B at the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School, is the recipient of a scholarship from the Optimist Club of Anguilla.

The students of the Stoney Ground Special Needs Class assembled on Friday to thank various supporters for the contributions they made to assist them in learning the art of baking. The special needs class taught by Mrs. Carol Webster baked cupcakes, pineapple upside down cake and other goodies as part of the activities to assist them in grasping the basic curriculum of math and reading.

Preschool Teacher, Icilma Itasha Webster, has completed a Certificate Course in Child Care Practice from the State University of New York at Cobleskill.

The Anguilla Postal Club has presented fourteen dictionaries to the Island Harbour Primary School, as part of its adoption programme.

As the observance of the Month of the Elderly continued in Anguilla, the first group of school children visited the Miriam Gumbs Senior Citizens’ Home on October 14. They represented the Alwyn Allison Primary School at West End and were accompanied by their teacher, Oslyn Babrow.

Master Drummer Mr. Michael Carvin is presently in Anguilla contributing some of his legendary talent to the benefit of Anguillian musicians.

In an impressive ceremony, 96 students graduated from the Fifth Form of the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School on Wednesday evening, October 12.

On Wednesday October 5 many prominent persons in the community were invited to teach a lesson at the Alwyn Allison Primary School in celebration of World Teachers’ Day.

The month of September was designated as Literacy Month, World Literacy Day being on September 8.

The Adult and Continuing Education Unit in Anguilla has had its second graduation of students. The ceremony, during which some 25 persons were presented with certificates after completing a number of courses, was held at the Teachers’ Resource Centre on September 22. The theme was “Continuing Education is the key to Anguilla’s Development.”

Acting Chief Minister in Anguilla, Victor Banks, was the guest speaker at Campus A at the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School during the assembly session on Wednesday morning.

Nashara Webster, who performed so well in the recent CXC exams was delighted to receive a used computer and printer from the Soroptimist Club. It was presented on Tuesday evening during the meeting of the Club. Also present was Avon Carty, Corporate Communications Manager from Cable and Wireless who presented Nashara with free internet access.

Liz Pre-school held its 15th Year anniversary celebrations on Wednesday 7 Sept at their school grounds. Students past and present were in attendance along with their parents and supporters of Tr. Bronte Newman’s effort in making the pre-school what it is today.

Caribbean Commercial Bank staff members Vanessa Connor (Assistant Manager Operations) and Karen R York (Administrative Assistant) attended the 61st annual session of the prestigious Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin-Madison held August 7-19, 2005.

The Soroptomist Club of Anguilla has concluded its yearly reading programme. The two-and-a-half week programme has been ongoing for the last 15 years. With the volunteering of local soroptomists and friends, and the participation of the Education Department in the form of Tr. Rhonda Connor, Education Officer-Multi professional support services, the programme has again been extremely successful.

For the second year in a row, the Alumni Chapter of the Caribbean Students Organisation at Midwestern State University, in Wichita Falls, Texas, has granted an Anguillian Primary School student a scholarship of EC $500.00.

A Sixth Form student in Anguilla, who has done extremely well in her studies, and was awarded the bulk of the prizes for her brilliant performance, is to study Forensic Science and Crime Scenes, at Bournemouth University in the south of England, from September, 2005.

Five teachers from Anguilla have joined a number of others in marking examination papers recently completed by students across the region.

Children and teachers in two special needs classes at the Stoney Ground and Road Primary Schools are benefiting from free internet access and facilitating computer equipment from Cable and Wireless.
