Tourism Week 2002 got off to a start on Sunday November 17 with a Thanksgiving Service in the garden of Paradise Cove, a locally-owned resort on the south-west coast of the island. It was the first such type of service conducted on a hotel premises organised jointly by the Anguilla Tourist Board and the Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association.

Presentation of Awards
The observance of Tourism Week 2002 in Anguilla continued with a presentation of awards ceremony at Coccoloba Resort on Monday, November 18, with the Special Assistant in the Ministry of Tourism, Donna Banks, chairing the proceedings. In her introductory remarks she observed that the best of Anguilla was being celebrated. Included in the list were the island’s friendly people, beaches, cuisine, culture, athletes, environment, accommodation facilities and taxi-drivers.

A Way To Fund Tourism
Hoteliers and other private sector representatives meeting at CuisinArt Resort & Spa on Tuesday November 19 gave their full backing to a new proposal, by the Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association in collaboration with the Anguilla Tourist Board, whereby sufficient funds could be generated to finance the island’s marketing programme. There were a number of on-the-spot ceremonial cheque presentations following the explanation of the campaign. Under the plan, phase one calls for member properties of the Association to invite their guests to voluntarily contribute one dollar for each night of their stay on Anguilla. |

Eighty members of the US Congress and top business professionals enjoyed a day in Anguilla on Sunday, November 10. They were part of a group of some three hundred members of the ‘Black Caucus’ and private sector representatives who were attending a Carib News conference in nearby St. Maarten.
Chief Minister and Minister of Tourism, Osbourne Fleming, told The Anguillian that the opportunity was taken to invite them to Anguilla. “We thought it would have been nice to invite them to Anguilla and we are happy to have about eighty here,” he said. “These are Congressmen, Congresswomen – Black Caucus people – and entrepreneurs. We feel that they can do a lot for us in our tourism plant

PA SYSTEM FOR BLOWING POINT PORT

A public address system is to be installed at the Blowing Point Passenger Terminal as part of general improvements to one of the island’s gateways for tourists. The equipment was handed over to Port Manager, Dale Rogers, by Director of Tourism, Amelia Vanterpool-Kubisch on Tuesday November 5.
In making the presentation, on behalf of the Tourist Board, she said the equipment was provided to enhance the ferry terminal for Anguillians and visitors. She was grateful to Mr. Rogers for his work and to members of the Board who had contributed their monthly stipend towards the purchase of the equipment. |
