Tourism officials from the Anguilla Tourist Board and the Anguilla Hotel & Tourism Association traveled to Puerto Rico on Friday February 7th to attend a series of meetings with potential strategic partners in the market place.

The attention of Anguillians has been drawn to the importance of the island’s upscale tourism industry in a letter to all nationals from Chief Minister and Minister of Tourism, Osbourne Fleming.

Anguilla is among the many destinations that will be featured in the Caribbean Travel & Life Reader’s Choice Awards for 2003.

The Anguilla Tourist Board, in conjunction with the Ministry of Tourism and the Anguilla Hotel & Tourism Association will be observing 25 Years of Tourism this year starting from February 2003.

A Waterfront facility providing boutiques for tourists, other public services and greater parking space for motorists is being proposed for Island Harbour Bay, one of the island’s attractive east coast beaches. Elected Representative for the constituency, Kenneth Harrigan, made the disclosure on Tuesday January 21 to The Anguillian.

A workshop has been scheduled for January 30 – February 1, 2003 for the mid market and budget properties on the island in particular. The workshop is aimed at enhancing the quality of the product as well as the promotion and distribution efforts of the properties so as to ensure the highest levels of visitor satisfaction and financial success for the properties.

An Anguillian, who has been living outside the island for 26 years, is the owner of Ocean Terrace Condos, called the Long Pond Condominium Development. The property is located off the Farrington area on the island’s south coast with a panoramic view of the sea and the mountain peaks of the neighbouring French and Dutch Islands.

Anguilla continues to receive exposure in its major markets with the release of articles and reports from journalists who visited the island over the past few months.

Frontline Port Workers On Tour

The Anguilla Tourist Board has embarked on an effort to conduct guided tours and training for frontline workers at the ports so that they could better inform visitors about places of interest on the island.

The launching of Anguilla’s Jazz Festival took place on Friday November 22 in the attractive setting of Frangipani Beach Club. The Jazz Festival will be an annual event as a lead up to the winter tourist season. It is being organized by a special committee in conjunction with the Anguilla Tourist Board and chaired by Fitzroy Tomlinson, chairman of the Festival Committee.

Celebrating The Best For Anguilla

Tourism Week 2002 got off to a start on Sunday November 17 with a Thanksgiving Service in the garden of Paradise Cove, a locally-owned resort on the south-west coast of the island. It was the first such type of service conducted on a hotel premises organised jointly by the Anguilla Tourist Board and the Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association.

Presentation of Awards

The observance of Tourism Week 2002 in Anguilla continued with a presentation of awards ceremony at Coccoloba Resort on Monday, November 18, with the Special Assistant in the Ministry of Tourism, Donna Banks, chairing the proceedings. In her introductory remarks she observed that the best of Anguilla was being celebrated. Included in the list were the island’s friendly people, beaches, cuisine, culture, athletes, environment, accommodation facilities and taxi-drivers.

A Way To Fund Tourism

Hoteliers and other private sector representatives meeting at CuisinArt Resort & Spa on Tuesday November 19 gave their full backing to a new proposal, by the Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association in collaboration with the Anguilla Tourist Board, whereby sufficient funds could be generated to finance the island’s marketing programme. There were a number of on-the-spot ceremonial cheque presentations following the explanation of the campaign. Under the plan, phase one calls for member properties of the Association to invite their guests to voluntarily contribute one dollar for each night of their stay on Anguilla.

Armed with faith in God, a large dedicated workforce and some local financial support, Anguillian businessman and developer Quincy Gumbs, is racing ahead with the family-owned Royale Caribbean Resort overlooking the pleasant scenery of Little Harbour and the nearby towering mountains of St. Martin/St. Maarten, on Anguilla’s south coast.

Five thousand road maps produced for the Anguilla Government, by Calabash Skyview of Barbados, which is represented on the island by Jessica Bensley, were handed over to the Department of Infrastructure on Thursday.

WORLD FAMOOUS CHEF PAUL BOCUSE TO COOK AT CUISINART RESORT & SPA IN ANGUILLA

On Saturday, November 16th, world famous French Chef Paul Bocuse will preside over a gala dinner at the luxurious, five star CuisinArt Resort & Spa in the lovely Caribbean island of Anguilla. The dinner will be held at the hotel’s Santorini Restaurant overlooking the charming gardens and pool area of the hotel, starting at 7:30 in the evening.

Eighty members of the US Congress and top business professionals enjoyed a day in Anguilla on Sunday, November 10. They were part of a group of some three hundred members of the ‘Black Caucus’ and private sector representatives who were attending a Carib News conference in nearby St. Maarten.
Chief Minister and Minister of Tourism, Osbourne Fleming, told The Anguillian that the opportunity was taken to invite them to Anguilla. “We thought it would have been nice to invite them to Anguilla and we are happy to have about eighty here,” he said. “These are Congressmen, Congresswomen – Black Caucus people – and entrepreneurs. We feel that they can do a lot for us in our tourism plant

Minister: “ I Never Saw The Like”

The newest addition to Malliouhana Hotel at Meads Bay in Anguilla, a five-million US-dollar state-of the-art luxury spa, was celebrated on Tuesday evening with a reception attended by a large number of invited guests from the public and private sectors. The guests were received by owner of the property, Leon Roydon and General Manager Nigel Roydon, his son.

A public address system is to be installed at the Blowing Point Passenger Terminal as part of general improvements to one of the island’s gateways for tourists. The equipment was handed over to Port Manager, Dale Rogers, by Director of Tourism, Amelia Vanterpool-Kubisch on Tuesday November 5.
In making the presentation, on behalf of the Tourist Board, she said the equipment was provided to enhance the ferry terminal for Anguillians and visitors. She was grateful to Mr. Rogers for his work and to members of the Board who had contributed their monthly stipend towards the purchase of the equipment.

Altamer Restaurant on the West End coastline in Anguilla has taken on a new look, making it more user friendly for its guests.
