The current exhibition at the Devonish Gallery is showing the lovely art work of Mrs Lidia Shave, wife of former governor of Anguilla, Mr Alan Shave.

The winners of the International Arts Festival were announced at a cocktail reception at Wallblake House on Friday December 3 Many persons attended the event and viewed the 48 paintings that were the finalists in the competition. Garve Beckham who, with Suzanne Seitz, judged the competition announced the winners.

An exhibition of paintings and craft work is currently taking place at the Devonish Art Gallery at West End. At the opening on Saturday February 7 there was much praise for the work of young artist Daryl Thompson and the two visiting artists, Kathy Carlson and Annabella Proudlock.

Courtney Devonish has produced what is regarded as a masterpiece Birth of a Nation Strong sculpture depicting part of the history of Anguilla.

The work of six young people in Anguilla is now displayed at Loblolly Art Studio. It is the outcome of a workshop which was being run in the Valley by five artists.

Students who have been taking lessons at the Loblolly Gallery will be showing their work at an exhibition on May 2.

St. Martin-based professional artist, Roland Richardson, now exhibiting in Frangipani Beach Club at Meads Bay, Anguilla, is offering to give free tutorship and advice to local practicing artists, students and other persons interested in drawing and painting. His exhibition is expected to continue until April 15. He will be available at the hotel from this weekend to that date to all persons wishing to see or purchase his work; interested in receiving assistance; and even to have their portrait sketches done.

The National Council of Women as part of their 21st anniversary celebrations are currently holding an exhibition of art and craft work at the Arts and Crafts Centre in The Valley. Work displayed features the hardanger work of Irenee Edwards, ceramics, paintings, tie-dye, wooden sculptures and batik by Melsadis and Vivian Fleming, Louise Brooks, Bernice Fahie-Richardson, Valerie Thompson, Courtney and Carrolle Devonish and students of the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School.

Mr. John Columbus a photographer from Connecticut mounted an exhibition entitled “The Faces of Anguilla” at the Anguilla Post Office from Monday March 11th to Friday March 14th, 2003.

Paintings by French artist Paul Elliott Thuleau are currently on show at the Savannah Gallery. The paintings are in oil and depict windows and doorways of Caribbean style houses.

Artist Iris Lewis is currently showing an exhibition of her work at the Loblolly Gallery. This time Iris shows her talent with pen, ink and pastel. All the twenty or more pictures are of Anguillian homes, some of which no longer exist but Iris is trying to “save” them through photos and paintings for all to see.

Well-known talented artist Peg Gregory is once again showcasing some of her work in an exhibition at the Devonish Gallery. There are 24 oil paintings of houses, beach scenes, people, flowers and birds of Anguilla that for Peg are all part of the ‘joy’ of Anguilla.

An exhibition of hardanger is currently taking place upstairs of Cheddie’s Carving Studio at Driftwood Haven. The beautiful and talented pieces are the work of Irenee Edwards and Stephanie Carty and include table runners, place mats, napkins, blouses, table cloths, doll’s clothes and centre pieces.

CuisinArt Resort and Spa has mounted its first art exhibition for the year and is hoping to have many more by various artists during 2003. The resort opened this season with a new boutique set up in the area where the art gallery was originally located. The gallery has now been moved to a partly open area in the vicinity of the hydroponic farm and in a section of the lush gardens.

The National Creative Arts Association in Anguilla (ANCAA) is developing skills in pottery-making among its membership and eventually plans to involve the participation of the wider community in the art form industry.
