The Health Authority in Anguilla has embarked on a programme to train nurses and community health aides to assist in assessing and caring persons with diabetic feet. Medical Air Services Association (MASA) in Anguilla has been the largest contributor in funding the purchase of the necessary equipment. The other sponsors are the Diabetes Association and the Ministry of Social Development.

This Friday, September 16, 2011, the late prominent Anguillian Lawyer, and distinguished Caribbean legal scholar, Dame Dr. Bernice Lake, DGCN, Q.C., B.A. Hons., LLB (Lond.) Hon. LLD (UWI), will be laid to rest in Antigua. The official funeral service, in which the Government of Antigua and Barbuda will be involved, will be held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church at Parham, beginning at 1.30 p.m. The Rt. Rev. Errol Brooks, Bishop of the Diocese of the Northeastern Caribbean and Aruba, will officiate at the funeral.

MINISTRY OF EDUCATION COMMENDS OUTSTANDING CAPE AND CSEC STUDENTS

The Ministry of Education is pleased with the performance of students who sat examinations for the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC). This year 78% of the subject entries achieved grades I to III, and 52% ofthe students passed four or more subjects. There was improved performance in approximately half of the subject areas examined. Additionally, in more than two thirds of the subjects examined, more than 75% of the students achieved passing grades. This is indeed commendable.
