Bed-wetting (Enuresis) by Dr. Brett Hodge
| |
Bed-wetting is a common disorder but few parents like to talk about it or discuss it, and often children suffering with this condition are too afraid and ashamed even to mention it to their friends. To make matters worse, in many countries there is a shortage of skilled, empathetic physicians to deal with this problem.

Commentary: A New Pope Emerges by James R. Harrigan
| |
Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger was the one chosen behind the secret walls of the Vatican, where 114 cardinals in a reclusive conclave on Tuesday cast their vote to elect the successor to the late Pope John Paul II. Cardinal Ratzinger was, in fact, said to be the deceased Pope’s closest ally. Crediting himself with the name Pope Benedict XVI, the 78 year old native of Baravia Germany, waved in modest papal gesture with hands fully raised to the cheerful crowd in St. Peters square. The audience erupted with effervescence as the new Pope emerged to the public announcement of his election to the papacy.

LEGAL NOTES - Making A Will by Alex Richardson
| |
What Happens If I die without a Will?
A person who dies without making a will is said to have died ‘intestate”. Sometimes, even if a person makes a will it can fail for a variety of reasons. For example, the will may not be signed at the end, or there may be only one witness instead of two. In this situation, the deceased is also regarded as being intestate.

A Good Role Model by Colville Petty
| |
Anguilla has long been renowned for its hospitality which has deep historical roots. The spirit of caring and sharing was born out of the harsh experiences of a resolute people. A history of hardships, brought about by prolonged droughts and famines, a shallow soil and the onslaught of severe hurricanes, gave birth to a culture of interdependence, caring and sharing – of one hand washing the other.

HEARTICALLY YOURS: Contemplation by Ijahnya Christian
| |
The last breath by last breath media coverage of the late Pope John Paul II’s dying and death provided much food for thought about what human civilization has come to mean. Much as this is possibly the only extent of comparison, it took on the ilk of the O.J. Simpson trial, the Elian Gonzales affair and most recently the Terri Schiavo case. In the other instances, I quickly made a decision that neither Fox, CNN nor any other US network was going to determine how I spent most of my waking hours. |

LEGAL NOTES - Making A Will by Alex Richardson
| |
One of the most important documents that a person will ever sign is his will. A will enables a person, during his lifetime, to clearly state how he wishes his property to be disposed of when he dies. This avoids uncertainty, delays, expenses, disputes and so on, which can result when a person dies without a will (ie, dies “intestate”). My next article will look at the situation where a person dies intestate.

Tribute: A Caring Praying Pope by James R. Harrigan
| |
By: James R. Harrigan
It was Austin Miles, in 1912, who penned the words to that old immortal hymn, In The Garden. In part, it goes thus:
“I come to the garden alone,
While the dew is still on the roses.
And the voice I hear falling on my ear,
The Son of God discloses.
And he walks with me and He talks with me,
And he tells me I am His own.
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.”

Jesus Turned Water Into Wine...
| |
He was out partying. Came home late. Drunk as a bat. And stumbled in his bed. He awoke the following morning (3rd December 2004) not feeling well. A splitting headache sent him flying to the East End Clinic to have his blood pressure checked. The figures were sky high. How come he was still alive baffled the nurse. And would have baffled any medical person. But there are some things called miracles. And miracles still happen because, instead of going to see a doctor, Mutt went to his friend’s bar in the Pond Ground and took two shots (of strong drink). More were to follow.

| |
The month of April has designated alcohol awareness month in many countries, from 1987, to inform the public about the disease alcoholism - that it is a treatable disease, not a moral weakness, and that alcoholics are capable of recovery. This year’s campaign theme is focusing on underage drinking.

LEGAL NOTES - Sexual Offences, Part II Other Crimes by Alex Richardson
| |
In the last article I looked at the offence of rape. The Criminal Code deals with a large number of other sexual offences. The following are some of them.
Sexual intercourse with a minor under 14 years – up to life imprisonment
Sexual intercourse with a minor between 14 and 16 years – up to 20 years imprisonment
The consent of the minor to the sexual intercourse cannot be used by the defendant as a defence. The law in its wisdom decided that young girls should be protected in this way, whether or not they themselves believe that they need such protection. |

Everybody Is Somebody by Colville Petty
| |
I can still hear Eric Reid shouting, at the AUF meeting at Hideway on 11th February:
Give us five!
In two thousand and five!
Despite the fact that Rhona Richardson had lost to Edison Baird (Eddy) resulting in the AUF winning four of the five seats it contested, it (the AUF) was still able to boast: “We got five, in two thousand and five.” How come? Because no sooner had Nurse Grace, the Returning Officer for West End, completed the delivery of the official results than Albert Hughes (Belto) jumped clean off ANSA’s boat and grasped the AUF’s beacon.

Caesarean sections, also called C-sections, can be a life saving operation for either the pregnant woman or her baby. The majority of Caesarean sections is not planned and occurs during labour.
