Long-serving member of the Anguilla Public Service, Lelia Richardson, was highly commended for her work, mainly as Postmaster General, at a retirement party held in her honour at Flavours Restaurant on March 10.

Avid musician and music teacher at the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School, Michael ‘Dumpa’ Martin, reached a milestone in his life on Thursday, March 16, when he celebrated his 50th birthday.

On Sunday March 12 Christopher Richardson of North Hill celebrated his 100th birthday at a special service at the Zion Methodist Church. It was attended by many family and friends from Anguilla and neighbouring islands.

Principal of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School, Darwin Hazell, and his wife, Louise, who works at the Chief Minister’s Office, had a special day in their lives on Monday, March 6.

The Anguilla Football Association (AFA) has presented the FIFA Centennial Award of Merit to Vernon Hodge, a humble but accomplished former local footballer, on February 9.

His foundation is in the Chalky Mount district on the east coast of Barbados where a long line of Barbadian potters, with roots and branches in Guyana and Trinidad, carried on the tradition of creation in clay. In 1987 one of their sons brought the higher end of this brand to Anguilla and, one year later, opened the Devonish Art Gallery. This year, Barbadian-born Anguillian sculptor Courtney Devonish issues a special invitation to his annual birthday exhibition opening on Saturday 4th February 2006.

Evans Harrigan of East End had quite a surprise when he walked into a special service at St. Augustine’s Anglican Church in observance of his 80th birthday on January 26.

One of Anguilla’s oldest retired teachers, Teacher Beryl Fleming of Long Bay, celebrated her 80th birthday on Sunday, January 22. A reception was held in her honour at the House of Chandeliers at Lower South Hill where a very large number of invited guests from throughout the island gathered to dine and to offer their good wishes to her.

Caribbean Commercial Bank (CCB), now has a newly appointed Operations Manager in the person of Wade Richardson. His appointment took effect on January 1, 2006 in succession to Mrs. Raheema Sharma, who served in the post for the past three years.

The Valley, Anguilla’s capital, has been the subject of an urban study this week by a group of third year students from the School of Architecture at the University of Technology in Jamaica. The 27 students, mostly from Jamaica with others from Barbados, Trinidad and St. Kitts, came to Anguilla as part of their study course.

Mrs. Greta Vanterpool has successfully completed the requirements for the AICB Certificate and has been awarded the AICB designation.

“After living in the United States for thirty-nine years, I felt that it was time for me to return to Anguilla to help in the social, economic and political development going on in the island at the present time.” So said Seymour Hodge a week ago shortly after his arrival from New York where he had been of much assistance to Anguilla in such areas as fund-raising and tourism promotion.

A well-qualified nursing administrator has accepted a post as Departmental Nurse Manager at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Anguilla, thus fulfilling a life-long dream to return to her native Anguilla.
