Mr. Rollins Richardson successfully completed the IAAF Level 2 course for lecturers which was held at the Regional Development Centre (RDC) in San Juan, Puerto Rico, from 13 – 20 April 2008.

Zion Methodist Church at North Hill and its grounds were the venues for a Thanksgiving Service and reception on Tuesday evening, April 15, for the much-esteemed Mrs. Rowena Carty, whose 90th birthday fell on that day. She is the widow of the late Reverend C. Leonard Carty, MBE, Anguilla’s beloved and first Methodist Minister.

An Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws has been conferred on Anguilla’s Attorney General, the Honourable Wilhem Bourne, by the University of Buckingham. He received the distinguished award on February 23 during the graduation ceremony for a number of students from the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Education.

Ms. Odessica Hughes of Meads Bay, Anguilla, has been awarded a Master of Science Degree in Medical Statistics. She obtained the award from the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom where she graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Biological Studies on January 25, 2008 following a vigorous one-year programme.

One of Anguilla’s proud sons, Eye Specialist Dr. Clarence Lloyd, has died in Basseterre, St. Kitts where he resided and worked at his Fort Street abode and office for many years.

Mrs. Louisa Agatha Richardson of North Hill, affectionately known to many as Mom-Gath, turned 79 years of age last Monday, February 11th. In a hearty mode of celebration held at the No-Walls Church of Hope, where Mom-Gat is an ardent member, many of her fellow-members were pleased to help her mark the special event on Monday night, as they participated in a heartwarming service of thanksgiving and contributed towards what turned out to be a memorable sumptuous meal.

Air Traffic Control Officer at Wallblake Airport, Glen Boothe, says he is grateful to the Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association for giving him the Award for Airport Employee of the Year. He was named for the honour at the recent AHTA Awards and Dinner Gala Ceremony held at Zurra Restaurant when a number of persons were awarded for various tourism-related services on the island.

Anguillian Darren Gumbs, has received the coveted United States award for becoming the World Junior Body Building Champion.
He gained the Junior Musclemania World Bodybuilding title in the 2007 championships held in November in Los Angeles, California.

On Sunday night, December 9, many people from various parts of Anguilla, including members of the legal fraternity, family members and friends, spent a delightful evening at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. John Benjamin at George Hill, where they partied in celebration of his birthday.

Anguilla’s oldest citizen, Victoria Charles, formerly of Blowing Point, is 103 years.

A service in her honour was held on Sunday, December 2, at St. Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church where many tourists and members of the resident congregation were in attendance.

Former Chief Minister of Anguilla, Sir Emile Gumbs, just back from heart surgery in England, says he is grateful to many persons on the island who in various ways offered him their best wishes before and after his treatment.

Recently, Dame Bernice Lake, Q.C., was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Law Degree from the University of the West Indies, Cape Hill Campus, Barbados, conferred at the 2007 Graduation Ceremony. The significance of this honour is impossible to describe in this short article; however, suffice it to say that it may be like getting into Heaven before your time and having an opportunity to stand at the foot of your society and hear praise for lifetime achievements and merit.

Family, friends and acquaintances in Anguilla and outside the island, gathered at St. Mary’s Anglican Church on Wednesday evening, November 7, for a Memorial Service for the late Anguillian pilot, Levette Dubois Ruan.

Ms Michelle Queeley-Roberts, a teacher of English Language and English Literature at the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School, has graduated with a Master of Philosophy Degree in Education with highest honours. She did her studies at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies in Barbados and graduated on October 27, having completed a rigorous two-year programme of study.

The appointment of Farrah Banks, as Director of the Anguilla Government’s Department of Information and Broadcasting, is a matter of pride and triumph for the island’s womenfolk who are continuing to distinguish themselves on the island by achieving positions of influence and respect.

The 2007/2008 Executive of the Year in Anguilla is Mrs. Janine Edwards, a partner in Sunset Homes, a real estate up-market construction and villa company on the island.
