Caribbean Cable Communications officially launched a prepaid worldwide calling card on Monday, February 18, in Anguilla. The card makes it easier and cheaper for persons to call from and to the island on land lines.

The National Bank of Anguilla Ltd has acknowledged that it is the proud recipient of the 2007 Anguilla Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ltd Best Anguilla Business Award. The award was presented by the Chamber at its annual General Meeting held at the Overlook Restaurant on Thursday January 31st, 2008.

“Cards Plus” is the latest store to open at the upper level of the Tomac Plaza. It was officially opened on Friday December 14 in front of a large crowd of family, friends and well-wishers. It is a family owned store that has lots of cards for all occasions as well as quality chocolates, dinner sets, crystal ware and many gift items.

All this time, the wholly Anguillian-owned and delightful Rendezvous Bay Hotel would have been opened to its many new and repeated guests. But the enterprising Gumbs’ family have opted to close operations and to embark on a new and largely expanded project which they are now marketing as “The Best is Yet To Come.”

In November 2002, Carl and Magda opened Shop 4 Less, an unusual store in the Landsome Plaza. While other merchants had simple products highly priced, Shop 4 Less came up with mainly dollar items and low-end products at the right price.

A public forum was held at the Teacher’s Resource Centre Auditorium to release and discuss the financial statement and independent auditor’s report to the public. The meeting began at 7:00pm on Thursday, November 1, and among the SSB staff were prominent members of society such as the Speaker of the House Mr. David Carty, the Honourable Mr. Victor Banks, and Dr. Aidan Harrigan.

Mr. Leslie Eustace Richardson, until recently Senior Manager at the Caribbean Commercial Bank, one of two indigenous banking institutions in Anguilla, has the distinction of being the first employee of the bank who, having retired, is now back as one of its Directors. He has in fact held the dual positions as Senior Manager and Director and is continuing in the latter post to which he was elected.

The arrival of H.E. The Governor Mr. Andrew George marked the start of the Business After Hours session at Cable & Wireless on Wednesday, October 31. After returning from a month abroad, the Governor arrived promptly at 5:25 pm to take part in this joint venture between the Anguilla Chamber of Commerce and Cable & Wireless. During a live broadcast from 5:30 to 6:00 pm, remarks were made by Mr. Sutcliffe Hodge, Chief Executive of C&W, Mr. Calvin Bartlett, Executive Director of the ACOCI, and Mr. Keithly Lake, the ACOCI Vice-President.

The 320 employees at CuisinArt Resort and Spa have undergone a week-long in-house training programme as final preparations were being made for the re-opening of the hotel on Monday, October 29.

“The sun is shining again so I hope it is a sign for us. We are looking for an absolutely exciting 2007/2008 season and a lot is going on at CuisinArt Resort & Spa”. So said General Manager, Stephane Zaharia, as the hotel reopened for its first guests for the new tourism season on Monday, October 29. The rainy period he alluded to over the past days has had a refreshing and rejuvenating effect on the exotic gardens surrounding the property, adding much to its attractiveness.

Chairman of Social Security in Anguilla, Dr. Aidan Harrigan, says that while stakeholders deservedly celebrate the achievements of the system over the past 25 years of its existence they cannot rest on their laurels “but should use the occasion to strategise for the future.”

The renowned Heritage Collection Museum, under the curatorship of Colville Petty, OBE, an authority on Anguilla’s history, will reopen for business on Monday 5th November after its annual two-month break. Located in East End, next to the East End Pond Bird Sanctuary, the Museum’s operating hours are: 10.00 am to 5.00 pm – Monday to Saturday.
