The Anguilla Amateur Basketball Association officially ended its Regular Season with a closing ceremony on Friday June 17th at the Valley Court. After a competitive season, the Hard Knox took 4th place, X-men 3rd, Hoyas 2nd and Shottaz took home the 2011 Championship.

What was described by Anguilla’s Minister of Social Development, Edison Baird, as “a battle of talent and prowess,” was won by St. Kitts for the second consecutive year. The occasion was the just-ended Leeward Islands Youth Track and Field Championships held at the Ronald Webster Park on Sunday and Saturday, May 21 and 22. In second place was the British Virgin Islands and third was Anguilla.

A successful weekend of sailing ended on Sunday afternoon with the presentation of certificates and prizes to the winning boats in the 9th Anguilla Regatta. About eighty persons attended the prize giving that took place at the headquarters of the Anguilla Sailing Association. There were five categories for the twenty two boats from St Maarten, St Martin, St Barths and Anguilla.

Anguilla Has A New AXA ITF TaeKwon-Do Black Belt
Vidal Permuy (II Dan, Assistant Instructor), Gregory A. Permuy (IV Dan, Chief Instructor) & Khesim Reid (I Dan)
 

Thirteen year-old Khesim Reid was promoted as AXA ITF TaeKwon-Do Club’s newest black belt on March 25. He was tested with Vidal Permuy who is a 2nd degree black belt who did the first of three stage tests required for his next promotional exam.
The tests consisted of many aspects of TaeKwon-Do, including hand and foot techniques, sparring, patterns, self-defense and board breaking, and took about an hour and a half to complete.

On Friday evening, March 25, the Ronald Webster Park Volleyball Court, the high fliers of NBA were suddenly grounded by the volleyball enigma, Construction, with a score of 25, 12 and 25, 16. Sherwin “Skywalker” Richardson conducted a blocking clinic as he showed why he has been judged the best blocker in the OECS region for the past six years. Sky walker’s hitting abilities were also on display as he made NBA’s number one blocker, Javelle “Special” Brooks, look invisible.

The Anguilla Youth Sailing Club (AYSC) sent three teams, of two sailors each, to compete in the St. Barth Mini Bucket Regatta this past weekend. This is a Regatta for young sailors held concurrently with the world-famous St. Barth Bucket Regatta, which is an invitation-only event that draws some of the world’s finest (largest and most expensive) yachts for a weekend of competitive racing and many social activities. Reg Lake kindly provided transportation for the sailors, their coach, and support staff to the event in his boat Regal.
