His Excellency the Governor and Chief Scout of Anguilla, Mr. Alan Huckle, and his wife Helen, hosted a fun day for Scouts and Guides at Government House on Saturday, 2nd April.

Bernie Morgan, a keen golfer, is the winner of the first Peter Johnstone Cup Trophy Competition held in Anguilla on Sunday April 3.

In the Cable & Wireless-sponsored Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School Sports Day, Orange House took a leading position in a number of the events, thus comfortably winning the inter-house competition.

The Anguilla Basketball Association, plagued for sometime by various administrative and organisational difficulties as well as disciplinary matters among players, is now on a new drive forward.

The Annual Primary Schools Road Race sponsored by Tropical Shipping took place on Friday March 18th in The Valley. The competition was in two categories, Juniors (under ten years) a distance of one and a half miles and Seniors (ten years and over), a distance of three mile.

The Anguilla Tennis Academy (ATA), has been making strides to complete an almost ten year project to introduce tennis to children. Since its inception in 1996, over 1000 participants have benefited from the programme.

A large enthusiastic crowd witnessed the 10th running of the annual Ashley and Sons Road Relay on Sunday 6th, March. Over 175 students from the seven Primary Schools and the five houses of the A.L.H.C School participated in this feature event on the National Sports calendar. This event is held on the 1st Sunday in March every year as a warm-up to the Sports Days activities for both Primary and Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive Schools.

Anguilla sailing legend Errol Romney of Blowing Point will helm Anguilla’s schooner Charm III in the upcoming 25th Anniversary Heineken Regatta March 4th, 5th & 6th. Errol is one of the premier captains in the Anguilla Race Boat series, piloting De Tree to many victories over the years.

Fourteen female footballers from the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School are training for their participation in the first annual Caribbean College Football Showcase to be held in Barbados from February 20 - 26. The competition is being organised by the Harvard Sports Management Group of the United States and Sporting Zones of Barbados.

The Anguilla Tennis Academy has now extended its service to the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School where its coaches are assisting with conducting the Physical Education classes.

The relatively long Windball Cricket Tournament in Anguilla has ended with the finals having been played at the Ronald Webster Park and the presentation of awards to the various teams and outstanding individual players.

A closing ceremony and the presentation of trophies to winning teams and top cricketers on Sunday January 23, will bring the Anguilla Windball Tournament to an end.

A Pony League Baseball Competition, involving a number of young players, is being held in Anguilla for the first time.

The Anguilla Bridge Club which meets on Mondays and Saturdays, at Koal Keel Restaurant, is continuing to emerge as one of the leading sports organistions on the island.

A number of young people on the island are practicing for the Carifta Games to be held in Trinidad and Tobago, in March this year, and for the Leeward Islands Track and Field Events scheduled for Anguilla in April.

The Jerry Mop Stick Cycling Club held its Second Annual New Year’s races for children and grown-ups at Sandy Ground on Monday, January 3. Phillip Richardson, otherwise known as “Chinee”, who is one of the main organisers of the event, said the aim was to promote cycling on the island and to bring back the New Year’s races which took place in the 1960s and 70s.

The National Bank of Anguilla Limited 16th Annual Primary School Football Tournament has ended with the Road Primary School taking first place in both the boys and girls competition.

The Male Windball Cricket Tournament gets into high gear as the Female comes to an end with matches on Sunday, November 28.

The Scotiabank sponsored Kiddy Cricket Competition saw the Road Primary School taking top honours and was the only school unbeaten in the round of matches. The other places were Stoney Ground – 2nd Place; The Valley Primary – 3rd place and the Teacher Gloria Omolulu Institute placed 4th .

Tennis camps for children have been in progress this week at courts at Malliouhana Hotel & Spa, Carimar Beach Club, Temenos Villas, CuisinArt Resort & Spa and at the Webster Park.
