The Jerry Mop Stick Cycling Club held its Second Annual New Year’s races for children and grown-ups at Sandy Ground on Monday, January 3. Phillip Richardson, otherwise known as “Chinee”, who is one of the main organisers of the event, said the aim was to promote cycling on the island and to bring back the New Year’s races which took place in the 1960s and 70s.

The West Indies won the second and final Test match against Bangladesh comfortably, but it must have been with a great sense of relief rather than rejoicing that the beleaguered Brian Lara and his not-so-merry men left the Sabina Park field on Monday afternoon. This victory against the lowly Bangladesh outfit was hardly a time to celebrate for a team that has sunk so low in international cricket, but a victory was a victory and they will no doubt take it gladly at a time when anything but a win would have been unthinkable and would most certainly have been the final demise for Brian Lara in his role as West Indies captain.
