Road School Winner Of NBA Football Tournament

Even before the last series of matches commenced at Coronation Park on Saturday evening, December 2, the Road Primary School boasted its supremacy in the 18th Primary Schools Football Tournament, sponsored by the National Bank of Anguilla. The hard-playing footballers from the school stuck up posters declaring they would be this year’s champions and they certainly won the all-round boys’ and girls’ competition.

This past weekend, 16 children from the St. Maarten Tennis Federation made a trip to Anguilla to connect with the Anguilla Tennis Academy. The children arrived on Friday, November 17 at 6:00 p.m. and were escorted to the Anguilla Great House where they remained for the entire weekend.

Anguilla Tennis Academy And Malliouhana Hotel & Spa Working Together

The Anguilla Tennis Academy(ATA), a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching children to become empowered through the sport of tennis, recently finalized a contract in which it would immediately begin to manage the tennis facility at Malliouhana Hotel and Spa. In the past two years, the ATA has worked diligently to upgrade its programs and hire and train local tennis pros. Recently, the tennis director for Malliouhana Hotel, Andy Matthew, decided to go overseas to pursue his career. As a result, an agreement was reached between the ATA and Malliouhana Hotel that allowed the ATA to assume control of the daily operations of the tennis programmes.

Anguilla Youth Sailing Club Attends First Race In St. Maarten
|

The Anguilla Youth Sailing Club (AYSC) attended the second annual Sint Maarten Yacht Club Optimist Open Championship Regatta on Saturday October 14th in the Simpson Bay Lagoon. This was the first competition for the Club which was formed in May 2006 by the Anguilla Sailing Association (ASA). Four Anguillian Racers were chosen to compete against sailors from Sint Maarten/St. Martin, St. Barths and other islands as well as one sailor from Switzerland. The sailors who represented Anguilla were Romero “Butchie” Gumbs, Noah Gumbs, Kendal Richardson and Daniel Andrews. They were led by Head Instructor and Racing Coach, Ian Brunswick. The four were chosen after attending the AYSC’s Summer Sailing Programme and continuing on to the After School Programme and the newly formed Racing Class.

Table tennis is expected to take a prominent place in local sports with the handing over of twenty tennis boards along with rackets and balls to the Government of Anguilla. The sporting equipment was made available by the National Bank of Anguilla at a cost of over sixteen thousand Eastern Caribbean dollars. It was shipped to the island free of cost by Tropical Shipping, represented by Sheila Haskins.
