The Third Annual Primary Schools Kiddy Cricket Competition is now in progress, having commenced at Coronation Park on May 26. It continues until July 2.

Anguilla won four golds, two silver and four bronze medals in the just concluded Leeward Island Junior Track and Field Championships which were held at the Yasco Complex in St. John’s, Antigua on Saturday and Sunday, May 28th and 29th.

Shining Stars vs. Manchester United - 13th May 2005

This was a weekend to remember in the CCB sponsored AFFL 2005 Competition. It was filled with drama, surprises and heartbreaks. The first of three matches that were scheduled saw League minnows coming up against the Competition favorites, the Shining Stars. Manchester United has not gotten a single point from its last three matches and has conceded some 13 goals to see them move one place away from fifth in the League standings.

The 2005 Basketball Tournament in Anguilla, in which ten teams are participating, is now in progress and is expected to continue for two months.

Youngsters vs. Lil’ Superstars

The first half of this Caribbean Commercial Bank sponsored AFFL encounter between Youngsters and Lil’ Superstars was filled with action from the first whistle. Youngsters took an unexpected two-goal lead through their talented forward Kennisha Xavier and veteran player/coach Lin Blankenship.

The Anguilla Sailing Association (ASA), in association with the Government of Anguilla and the Anguilla Tourist Board, has announced that the third annual Anguilla “Mix-Up” Regatta was a great success with increased participation over last year and three days of great wind and sailing conditions.

The Anguilla Sailing Association called a meeting of representatives of the National Bank of Anguilla and the Caribbean Commercial Bank to draw lots to decide which of two 12-meter yachts, each operated by the banks, should race on Saturday coming, May 7th. The yachts are the Dennis Conner’s America’s Cup wining Stars & Stripes and the Canadian challenger, True North.

Lil’ Soldiers vs. Lil’ Superstars

From the kick-off it was end-to-end action between the two teams in Tuesday May 3rd’s CCB sponsored Anguilla Female Football League. With the defending Champions Lil’ Super Stars yet to earn a point in the 2005 Championship and Lil’ Soldiers coming off of a massive victory over League leaders Manchester United on the weekend, both teams were ready to face off. Although it was the defending 2004 champs who made the crisper and more precise passes, the Lil’ Soldiers who were the ones applying the early pressure on goal.

At the conclusion of the Leeward Islands Youth Track and Field Championships held in Anguilla on April 30th and May 1st at the Ronald Webster Park, St. Kitts emerged champion for the 9th consecutive year.

Caribbean Cable Communications (CCC) in Anguilla is the sole major sponsor for the “mix-up” race on Sunday, May 8, when crews from Anguillian boats will be racing on the visiting yachts on one hand during the morning. On the other hand, the yacht crews will race on the local boats in the afternoon.

Cheques for two additional sponsorships of the Leeward Islands Youth Track and Field Championships, due to commence in Anguilla on Saturday, April 30, were presented on Tuesday this week.

Four Anguillians left here on Thursday for Nashville, Tennessee, to participate in a week-long tennis tournament at Vanderbilt University.

Sport-loving persons from Anguilla and St. Maarten participated in the Cable and Wireless sponsored 7th Optimist Triathlon on Sunday, April 10. The successful event included participants in the individual totally serious, serious team and fun team categories.

Bernie Morgan, a keen golfer, is the winner of the first Peter Johnstone Cup Trophy Competition held in Anguilla on Sunday April 3.

In the Cable & Wireless-sponsored Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School Sports Day, Orange House took a leading position in a number of the events, thus comfortably winning the inter-house competition.
