There are some young, upcoming Anguillian cricketers who may one day join other locals in making the island proud in regional competitive cricket matches as demonstrated by the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School under-19 team on Sunday, March 29. They emerged victorious against a team from the Royal Anguilla Police Force. Both teams were the finalists in a series of matches in the 20/20 Caribbean Commercial Bank Tournament which started eight weeks ago.

The 13th round of the West Indies Cricket Board four-day tournament commences this Friday, April 3, with Trinidad and Tobago playing against the Leewards at the Ronald Webster Park in Anguilla.

In an effort to develop the sport of basketball on the island a 5 day mini basketball tournament commenced on February 23 and ended on March 2nd, 2009 at the Stoney Ground Hardcourt.

The 14th Ashley & Sons’ Relay Race held on Sunday, March 15, was an exciting event attracting wide participation by primary and secondary school students.

Just before the start of the games a minute silence was observed in honour of the passing of former Principals Adrian T. Hazell and Teacher Arthur Eagle of the Adrian T.Hazell Primary School and the Alwyn Allison Primary School respectively.

Shara Proctor captured her first South Eastern Conference (SEC) title last Sunday when she leaped to a distance of 13.31 meters in the triple jump. That leap set a new school record in the event, as she became the first Gator to win an SEC Indoor women’s triple jump title since Leah Kirklin accomplished the feat during the 1992 season.

Shara Proctor competed at the Tyson Invitational in Arkansas over the weekend in the long jump and triple jump.

Football has developed into one of the major sporting activities in Anguilla and is providing much delight not only for the competing clubs, but for the growing number of fans and other persons who flock to the playing field.

Shara Proctor picked up a victory in her season opener by leaping to a distance of 6.30 meters in the long jump on Saturday.

As the day silently slipped away and the evening’s chilly breeze filled the air, cricketers, supporters, Owen Mussington and his team of organizers, were well entertained as eight participating teams, Blue Jays, Deadly Force, Razor Massive Female, Real Fire Gyalz, Razor Massive Male, Point United, Lucians and Village Youth, made the first day of Ten-Ten Cricket a fun-filled one.

On Friday January 16th 2009, the 2008 AFA-NBA sponsored ALHCS Inter-house Football Competition came to an end with the closing ceremony at the Ronald Webster Park. The ceremony was chaired by Mrs. Deslyn Smith, Market Research & Business Development Support Officer of the National Bank of Anguilla Ltd.

A number of cricketers in Anguilla have been awarded for outstanding performance in a domestic tournament sponsored by the Caribbean Commercial Bank.

The Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School Inter-House Football Tournament, sponsored by the National Bank of Anguilla and the Anguilla Football Association, is now in progress.

The 1st Anguilla National Table Tennis Championship was held on Saturday 15th November 2008 at the Campus B Auditorium. It began with an opening ceremony which was chaired by Mrs. Celestine John, who is the president of the Anguilla Table Tennis Association, a prayer by Pastor Welcome, remarks by Mrs. Wilma Proctor on behalf of the Honourable Evans Rogers, greetings from the Trinidad and Tobago Table Tennis Association by Mr. Aubrey Edwards and the vote of thanks by Mrs. Mona Fleming who is the Public Relations Officer of the Anguilla Table Tennis Association.

The ATA received a very special visit by three separate parties on Saturday, November 15. After receiving an e-mail and phone call from Stephen Baker, Dean of Students at Cooper Union College, Jason Allen and Mitch Lake extended an invitation to a group of eight people to tour the facility and participate in the children’s programme. Dean Baker, who is also the Athletic Director of the college, brought the university’s basketball team to Sint Maarten to compete against local teams.

Crowds of supporting children and adults stormed onto the fenced playground at Coronation Park on Monday, November 17, where the male members of the young football team from the Adrian T. Hazell Primary School were leaping in the air after winning the National Bank-sponsored Primary Schools Tournament.

Sixty teams lined up for the 2008 St Maarten Day Race including three teams from Anguilla which were the Anguilla Swift, Anguilla Trotters and Rainbow Rockets.

In a closely fought match against North Valley, the team from South Valley emerged champions of the Orlando Johnson Memorial Football Tournament with a score of 1-0; the lone goal of the match coming from Junior Lewis. To top off their win, South Valley’s goalie Chaka Hodge was named MVP of the tournament.

The National Bank of Anguilla’s 20th Annual Primary School Football Tournament, known to attract large crowds from throughout the island, is now in progress for a three-week period at Coronation Ball Park in The Valley.

After much inquiry by the general public, the Anguilla Tennis Academy will begin its adult programmes starting next week on Monday, September 15. Although the ATA specializes in the teaching of children, it recognizes that in order for it to be truly a community effort, the adults and parents must also take part.

A large number of young men from the Valley, one of the largest populated areas of Anguilla, have come together in a show of unity and peace to share in an Annual Football Tournament in memory of Orlando Johnson of North Side, who was a noted sportsman.
