The annual meeting of the Anguillian Golf Association (AGA) was held at Roy’s Bayside Grill on Wednesday, February 15, 2006. Approximately 25 members were in attendance.

Digicel, the fastest growing mobile telecommunications company in the Caribbean and principal sponsor of West Indies cricket, brought Windies stars Darren Sammy, Ryan Hinds and Daren Powell to Anguilla along with Anguilla’s very own Leeward Islands cricketer Omari Banks to conduct youth coaching clinics for more than 40 youngster including up and coming cricketers. The coaching clinics took place on the Ronald Webster Park.

The Anguilla Cricket Association is preparing its national team to participate in the Stanford 20/20 Tournament which will involve competing teams from 19 regional territories.

Jason Allen, Director of the Anguilla Tennis Academy and tennis director at Cuisinart Resort and Spa has left the island for Hilton Head, South California to attend a unique professional development opportunity a Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) International Tennis Symposium.

The Caribbean Commercial Bank has donated EC$12,500.00 to the Anguilla Cricket Association to help finance the 2006 Local Limited Overs Cricket Tournament now taking place on the island.

Cable and Wireless has donated an all-weather moveable cricket pitch (otherwise known as a Flicx Pitch) to Anguilla as part of a donation of similar facilities to communities across the Caribbean.

Roy’s Bayside, Sandy Ground, Anguilla, was the place to be Saturday January 14th as the Anguilla Animal Rescue Foundation sponsored the first of their planned bi-annual bingo games in 2006 to raise money for their spay/neuter program - the main project of the foundation.

A number of young Anguillian athletes of school age, are expected to make their island proud when they participate, over the coming months, in a number of award-winning competitions on the regional and international scene. Not only are they being vigorously trained by a number of local persons, with excellent backgrounds in sports, but two highly experienced and recognised Cuban coaches and former athletes have been brought to Anguilla until February 12 to assist with the training of the youngsters at the Ronald Webster Park.

The training and development programme for the under 15 cricketers in Anguilla has been given a financial boost of US$4,503.00 by Cable and Wireless.

The month-long 17th Annual Primary School Football Tournament for male and female students, sponsored by the National Bank of Anguilla, ended on November 26 in an exciting match at Coronation Park.

The Anguilla Pony Softball business sports club tournament got off to an exciting start on Tuesday night after a brief opening ceremony.

On Sunday 20th November 2005 Cable & Wireless Climaxed its 34th Anniversary Celebration with a 15 Lap Bicycle Race. The event was officially opened by Mr Lester Foreman, VP Sales & Mobile C&W. Mr Derek Carty, PRO Anguilla Cycling Association in his response thanked Cable & Wireless for its contributions to John T Memorial Race and expressed their happiness in being able to assist C&W with their celebrations. Mr Alkins Rogers, Sports Officer was the personality of the day and did a great job at keeping the crowd entertained between laps.

On Thursday November 10th former West Indies Cricket Captain Mr. Clive Lloyd C.B.E. arrived on Anguilla for the first time.

The National Bank of Anguilla Limited is sponsoring the Annual Primary School Football Competition for the seventeenth time.

In a continuing effort to enhance the sporting relationship between Anguilla and St.Maarten/St.Martin there has been another domino match played between the Stoney Ground Warriors of Anguilla and the Winter Garden Boys of St.Maarten.

A number of Anguillian Cyclists participated in the Antigua National Championships which were held there on October 30.

With the completion of a Lease Agreement between the Government of Anguilla and the Anguilla Football Association (AFA), the enabling conditions to facilitate the construction of Anguilla’s first football stadium are now in place.

Sport lovers in Anguilla now have some additional sporting activities to enjoy with the commencement of the 2005 Male Football League.

Much is being contributed to the friendship between the people of Anguilla and their next-door neighbours in St. Martin/St. Maarten through various sporting activities being played in the territories.
