The Anguilla Golf Association held its first tournament of the 2007 season on 10th February: an eighteen-hole metal play tournament at Temenos Golf Course. The winner was Bernie Morgan with low score of 68, Joe Hayes second 69 and Theron Lozios third, 70.

It’s happening this weekend again: the clash of football champions. Full Monty will clash with A.L.H.C.S. on Saturday 17th February 07. Chad said their team is like wine, the longer it stays the better it is and their team is better at each match. The energetic school boys said they are ready so don’t you dare underestimate them.

This past Saturday saw the first in this years series of Professional Miniature Golf Tournaments taking place at PAR (PLAY-A-ROUND) the only 18 hole, professional miniature Golf course in Anguilla. Did you even know that there is such a thing as “Professional Miniature Golf?” Yes ....Professional miniature golf is a very popular sport in many countries and is even a provisional Olympic sport!

Its happening this weekend again- the clash of football champions. Attackers FC will clash with Full Monty on Saturday 3rd February 07. Sugar George said this game will only bring his team nearer to the championship as he intends to take ALL three as Lions’ teeth were extracted last week, while they were sleeping,by Kicks.

The excitement of 10/10 Windball Cricket continued into week two of the tournament, sponsored by the Honourable Chief Minister and the Minister of Infrastructure, Mr. Osbourne Fleming and Mr. Kenneth Harrigan respectively.

Two upcoming Anguillian athletes won trophies in the 5 and 10-kilometre races held in Antigua on Sunday, January14, by that island’s Hurricane Power Athletic Club.

Even before the last series of matches commenced at Coronation Park on Saturday evening, December 2, the Road Primary School boasted its supremacy in the 18th Primary Schools Football Tournament, sponsored by the National Bank of Anguilla. The hard-playing footballers from the school stuck up posters declaring they would be this year’s champions and they certainly won the all-round boys’ and girls’ competition.

This past weekend, 16 children from the St. Maarten Tennis Federation made a trip to Anguilla to connect with the Anguilla Tennis Academy. The children arrived on Friday, November 17 at 6:00 p.m. and were escorted to the Anguilla Great House where they remained for the entire weekend.

The Anguilla Tennis Academy(ATA), a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching children to become empowered through the sport of tennis, recently finalized a contract in which it would immediately begin to manage the tennis facility at Malliouhana Hotel and Spa. In the past two years, the ATA has worked diligently to upgrade its programs and hire and train local tennis pros. Recently, the tennis director for Malliouhana Hotel, Andy Matthew, decided to go overseas to pursue his career. As a result, an agreement was reached between the ATA and Malliouhana Hotel that allowed the ATA to assume control of the daily operations of the tennis programmes.

Coronation Park in The Valley is a riot of colour each afternoon as primary school students in bright uniforms battle for the championship in the 2006 Football Competition sponsored by the National Bank of Anguilla Limited.

After a week of rain, Windball Cricket action continued on Sunday with 5 games played at East End and The Farrington.

Three games, originally scheduled to be played in Island Harbour, had to be relocated to the Farrington due to a wet outfield.

Windball Cricket matches are scheduled to continue this weekend at Island Harbour and East End.

In games on Sunday 15th October, rain caused a change of venue for one game while three went as scheduled.

The Anguilla Youth Sailing Club (AYSC) attended the second annual Sint Maarten Yacht Club Optimist Open Championship Regatta on Saturday October 14th in the Simpson Bay Lagoon. This was the first competition for the Club which was formed in May 2006 by the Anguilla Sailing Association (ASA). Four Anguillian Racers were chosen to compete against sailors from Sint Maarten/St. Martin, St. Barths and other islands as well as one sailor from Switzerland. The sailors who represented Anguilla were Romero “Butchie” Gumbs, Noah Gumbs, Kendal Richardson and Daniel Andrews. They were led by Head Instructor and Racing Coach, Ian Brunswick. The four were chosen after attending the AYSC’s Summer Sailing Programme and continuing on to the After School Programme and the newly formed Racing Class.

The Anguilla Windball Cricket Tournament got off with its first league matches in Blowing Point and Sandy Ground on Sunday.

Table tennis is expected to take a prominent place in local sports with the handing over of twenty tennis boards along with rackets and balls to the Government of Anguilla. The sporting equipment was made available by the National Bank of Anguilla at a cost of over sixteen thousand Eastern Caribbean dollars. It was shipped to the island free of cost by Tropical Shipping, represented by Sheila Haskins.

As the 2006 male and female wind ball cricket tournament commenced on Sunday 1st October, the young men and women of the Blowing Point community proudly displayed their green and gold uniforms sponsored by Temenos St.Regis Resort & Golf Course. Several members of both cricket teams and senior managers of the sales department gathered at the entrance to the world class Golf Course on Saturday morning to showcase their new sport gear.

The upcoming Anguilla Windball Cricket Tournament, due to commence on Sunday, October 8, will be an exciting pastime for fans around the island.

There is a considerable amount of excitement among participating teams, and the general public, with the start of the Windball Cricket Tournament on Sunday, October 1.

The US Open Tennis Championships is one of the four grand slam tennis events and one of the most exciting spectacles in the sports arena. Held at the newly named Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York, it is the last grand slam event of the year and therefore puts much pressure on the players as this is the last chance to boost their ranking.

The need for a village playing field for the children of the Stoney Ground/Cauls Pond community has again been highlighted by the sponsorship of the third annual fun day by Sunset Homes, an Architectural Design and Construction firm in Anguilla.
