First Annual Anguilla National Table Tennis Successful

The 1st Anguilla National Table Tennis Championship was held on Saturday 15th November 2008 at the Campus B Auditorium. It began with an opening ceremony which was chaired by Mrs. Celestine John, who is the president of the Anguilla Table Tennis Association, a prayer by Pastor Welcome, remarks by Mrs. Wilma Proctor on behalf of the Honourable Evans Rogers, greetings from the Trinidad and Tobago Table Tennis Association by Mr. Aubrey Edwards and the vote of thanks by Mrs. Mona Fleming who is the Public Relations Officer of the Anguilla Table Tennis Association.

Cooper Union College Visits ATA

The ATA received a very special visit by three separate parties on Saturday, November 15. After receiving an e-mail and phone call from Stephen Baker, Dean of Students at Cooper Union College, Jason Allen and Mitch Lake extended an invitation to a group of eight people to tour the facility and participate in the children’s programme. Dean Baker, who is also the Athletic Director of the college, brought the university’s basketball team to Sint Maarten to compete against local teams. |

Hazell Primary School were leaping in the air after winning the National Bank-sponsored Primary Schools Tournament.

In a closely fought match against North Valley, the team from South Valley emerged champions of the Orlando Johnson Memorial Football Tournament with a score of 1-0; the lone goal of the match coming from Junior Lewis. To top off their win, South Valley’s goalie Chaka Hodge was named MVP of the tournament.

All of the children who participated in the After School Program throughout the year were invited to attend. In all, there were around 100 participants ranging from age three to seventeen. |

A pensive hue consumed the O.A Shirley Track and Field Complex in Tortola as athletes from the Caribbean warmed up for the BVI Track and Field Invitational Classic. Many athletes sat beneath the pavilion enduring the relatively warm conditions and pondering the potential outcome of their event. Present at this meet was Anguilla’s own Denvil “Skywalker” Ruan.

NBA Tennis Invitational Finishes With Excitement

The National Bank of Anguilla Tennis Invitational was a monumental success according to the Organizing Committee Chairman Mr. Mark Phaup. The tournament was designed to compliment the opening of the Anguilla Tennis Academy’s facility on May 23. The tournament itself was mostly finished on May 25 but due to people travelling, some of the adult categories had to be finished at later dates. |

Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) Wave Ruler’s volunteer football team tried hard to win against Anguilla’s National Team on Tuesday 17 June, but it was a doomed dream. The average age of the British team was considerably more than that of the Anguillian players and the final score, twelve to one to the home team, reflected the age difference.

Last weekend Arthur Ward and Denvil Ruan traveled to Puerto Rico to compete in the Caribbean Scholastic Invitational at the Carolina Track and Filed Stadium. Arthur competed in the triple jump and Denvil competed in the long jump and 100meter dash. |
